Nord Stage 3 Love

Postby Zbmstudios » 19 May 2018, 04:31

Soooo this is my second of third post on this forum. But I just had to share. I just recently sold my Nord Piano 3 (which I loved) and replaced it with a Nord stage 3 compact (I needed the synth engine and organ for gigs). Man....all I Can say is this board is amazing!!! I've been playing piano for quite some time and I am blown away at the quality of this board. It is a great mainboard. I have a Roland FA-07 to fill in the gaps as a top board. The two work so well together. I have so much fire power between the two boards.

Lastly, I had no idea the Lead A1 engine sounded that phat. I was at rehearsal yesterday and pulled out a bass patch for "in my house" and man it blew everyone (myself included) away. I am a fan of the Nord Lead A1 engine. I am eagerly awaiting the Nord Lead A2 (if they Make one) and I hope they put aftertouch in it because I use it s much. Anywho, I'm just in love with this board and had to share haha. I will post a video of me playing it one of these days.

I have to agree, I love mine too, its a little harder to get used to (I find) compared to other synths but man, once you take the time to learn it, its a fantastic board, so far I have been doing everything on it from organ stuff to chiptune stuff (with a little help from NordPH)

It shares a room with a Roland System-8, Studiologic Sledge, Korg Pa-4x arranger, Yamaha C-605 organ and a Roland VK-1

Hope you have many many years of fun with it, i know I will!!!
Niks sê is ook 'n antwoord.

My toerusting:

Yamaha electone C-605
Roland VK-1
Korg Pa4x
Nord Stage 3 Compact
Roland System8
Studio-logic Sledge 2.0
Korg Electribe SX1

I have a feeling that the compact and 76 note versions of the Stage are probably great. The thing about the 88 is that it should be all about piano feel and Clavia just hasn’t nailed this. I’m glad others are enjoying their Stage.

i thought the 88’s tp40m was generally more popular than the 76hp’s tp100lr!?

I see that the FUD/weasel-words spreader just couldn't resist this thread.

Well, the 88 version is not ALL about piano feel; it's still a compromise action in some ways that allow you to play acoustic, electric, clav, organ and synth on the same set of keys -- but it's more tailored towards piano/epiano use than the others.

I also find it great :-)

I think the (Nord) options would be 1) NP3 plus a NS3 Compact (for "best" piano action and overall sound palette and drawbars), or 2) NS3 88 plus NE6 73D (for greatest versatility; bring only one keyboard when you need it -- piano or organ keys -- or both when needed and have the drawbar option still for organ). For non-Nord options, you could also get another piano like controller you happen to prefer and put a NS3 compact on top, of course.

My pick is option 2), and I prefer the NS3 88 action for my RD700NX (that I still have but very rarely use); it plays really well for me (doing probably 50/50 of acoustic vs electric pianos, plus organ and synths, of course). The latest generation waterfall keys are not bad for piano playing either, as @analogika has previously pointed out, and are (to me) much nicer than e.g. the NE3 generation keys.

I have played about 50 hours on my new Piano 3, and like the action more and more, and acutally more then i thought i would to be honost. I've had yamaha dp's and Roland dp's, and i can't say they are better, different yes, but not better. And i have no problem transition my self from my teachers Grand to my Nord at all. Also to note, i bought the Piano 3 as a /playing/practise instrument at home ( i dont play live, so i considered and played every DP in this pricerange).

I own the Stage 3 88 and the Compact and play the 88 at home and the Compact at church. I love both. The 88 is a dream for me, and my RD-800 gathers dust and will be sold when I get time to post it online. The whole keyboard experience is so advanced, or more accurately, it’s so much better positioned to make more advanced music, I find. My fingers like the keys, as well. It’s no lie the Roland key experience is phenomenal, but the Nord is about the pitch bend and easy mod wheel functions and filters and arps and everything that gives me that instant modern music sound. I just wouldn’t dig around with another keyboard to try to recreate it. In this way, Nord is an experience.
What surprised me, as a guy who has only played weighted keys and piano, is I love the NS3 Compact. There is a certain sexiness to it in the Compact form that I can’t deny. It’s an absolute joy to play.
As a guy who buys gear constantly, there are some wins and losses, no question. I think all the time about what a win it was that I bought the Nord Stage 3s. I get so much joy out of playing them!
Best to you all.
