Hi
I've had a Stage 2 EX for a few years now with no problems, but recently it started to change program/bank/FX settings and even save function by itself which is worrying. It usually happens as I'm playing it so I'm wondering if it's perhaps something to do with a contact issue - just seems so odd that so many functions are being affected? I had a scan though for similar topics but not come across anything like this yes - any advice is helpful.
I'm definitely no touching any of those settings by accident and have turned disconnected all MIDI/USB to check if it is an internal problem, which it seems to be.
Thanks

Re: Nord Stage 2EX random changing of programs & settings
I wonder if the encoder to change the program is worn down or dirty.
Have you tried giving it a few rotations to see if that makes a difference?
Does it change programs if you touch it but not rotate it?

Open it and check that the 2 flat cables connecting the panel to the main board are properly connected (unplug and replug them to be sure)

Thanks for the reply. It doesn't change when I touch it and have given it a good few rotations also. I've not had it happen for a few days now, but will no it seemed to happen at random anyway.
I've used it a lot, so it may be worn down, perhaps i'll try and clean it to see. Just seems odd that it effects unrelated functions like octave and save..

Re: Nord Stage 2EX random changing of programs & settings
So after opening it up and giving it a clean and checking the cables were connected, it turns out that it's the sustain pedal that's creating the random changes. I've no idea why but I noticed when I press the pedal down (it's a yamaha) it affects the program changes, and even then triggers the save function!
Any one ever heard of that?

Having said that, it could have just been coincidence because I changed the pedal over to a nord one and it still does it. The pedal definitely triggers something, but then so does playing something after that. I'm wondering if it would be related to a power surge or something?

Could be, if there is some AC flying around the board on top of DC that can cause a lot of problems; I would double check the power supply output and particularly the capacitors. Other possible cause is faulty buttons (Save and Program up/down)

Re: Nord Stage 2EX random changing of programs & settings
I had a similar problem with both a Stage 3 and a Piano 4 at the same time. The flashing lights don't actually change the program, but it looks like all hell is breaking loose on the control panel. It's very disconcerting when the lights start flashing in the middle of a gig.
At the time I engaged Pablo (no longer an option unfortunately) but I never made progress as to the root cause. As it was across two very dissimilar keyboards, it was hard to blame the keyboard itself vs. something external.
I can't say exactly what fixed it, but I started with switching to better conditioned power and the problem disappeared. Not surprisingly, there's a lot of dodgy power out there. I also switched out a midi cable (spurious midi signals were a potential culprit) as well as floor pedals and audio cables.
One or more of these steps cured the problem, as I haven't seen it in over a year.

I think I have gear issues ....

I may have mixed up the kettle leads at some point, which may be affecting it. I'm going to look for the original. I'm not sure how to check the power supply output, do you mean within the keyboard itself?
