Re: Nord Stage 2 - Not updating and not working
No Nord instrument ever made uses an internal battery. The closest thing to that would be the PCMCIA cards which NL2s and expanded NLs used for outboard storage; they use typical (CR2032?) pancake batteries.
Installing new circuit boards (and throwing the old ones in the trash) is common practice for a great many brands of musical gear, but Nord is not one of them. That practice is economically and ecologically irresponsible.
Replacement Nord circuit boards are somewhat expensive as compared to most other brands; they are not mass-produced in Asia, but actually made in Sweden (with Swedish labor costs). Component level repair is indicated. This is major surgery and will require the skills of a competent electronics tech. The fact that so many other brands have for so many years treated their circuit boards as though they were single-use disposable tissue paper has resulted in a "dumbing down" of the electronics repair work force. As a result, some service shops will not be capable of this level of work. Sound Technology should be able to advise on possible repair locations. It is also possible for them to coordinate shipping circuit boards back to Sweden for service there as a "backstop" solution, but there should surely be some available service solutions in UK.
Good luck!
