Nord sounds all messed up

Post by Beaker »

Hey Nord users,

First post on here and wish it was a happier one.

My Nord Stage 2 has started to act a bit weird. The only sound on the keyboard that currently works correctly is the grand piano, all other patches sound like a really quiet pad, not the same sound but everything seems to be dampened and muted and can't be turned up.

I can't remember when this started happening exactly but i recently started using a midi keyboard with the nord, maybe this is related but i can't seem to resolve the issue.

I reinstalled the firmware and downloaded and installed the factory restore from nords website but no dice, it's still the same.

Does anyone have any suggestions to help me out here, i frickin love this rig and would hate to see it die on me after 13.5 months of use (yes, it's just out of warranty).

Thanks.

-does the organ section also sound weird, or only the synth section?
-do you have the same sound through speakers and through headphones?
-are there any other controllers attached (eg. swell pedal/control pedal?)

You probably have done this but, boot up the KB with no MIDI gear wired to it. And double check that your pedal(s) are in the correct ports.

Interesting, so it looks like an issue with the headphone socket.

Tried using channel 1 and 2 and it's all good.

At least I now know what to investigate :-)

Thanks folks

I had exactly the same problem after just one week of using my new stage2. It turns out, that the problem was cheap jack 6,5 to 3,5mm coverter. I bought a gold-plated converter, and since than, everything is fine :)

yes, poor quality 1/8"-1/4" adapters responsible for many reports of issues...
