Nord Sample editor- multi Sample imports

Post by Organaut »

Hello, I am new here so thank you for letting me join.
I am intending buying a Nord Stage 4 and I’ve previously created quite a few vintage organ and synth multi samples which I’ve looped
and key mapped using sample robot.
If I import any of these into the Nord sample editor, can I just use this to convert them into the Nord sample library format voice patches without having to remap and re loop them all or will I have to start again from scratch?
Many thanks in advance for any advice you can help me with on this.

Hello, and welcome to the Forum! Yes, a related post here includes a python script to utilize what you currently have. I hope this helps, good luck to you.

A bit tricky but the EXE works well for changing a Nord sample projects so that it includes automatically the loop points embedded in WAV files.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 'multi sample'. While Nord Sample Editor easily accepts multiple sounds in one file to create a fully mapped sample, there is no way for users to create samples with multiple velocity layers (only a workaround to combine multiple samples with the help of multiple engine layers). Which is no issue at all for organ sounds, but may be for piano or synth sounds.

I think most people use the term "multi sample" to mean many different samples mapped chromatically across the keyboard. You can do that on the Nord.
It cannot do Velocity Layers on a single key in the Synth section, as you mentioned.
I think we're all on the same page about what the instrument can do, it's just semantics.

If you have issues with the tool to import the loop-points let me know.
I build that tool and used it only for a few samples of my own, all feedback is welcome.

It "can" play user-created velocity samples (at least for nsmp3, not nsmp, certainly nsmp4) using some trick in the project file in the Nord Sample Editor : https://www.norduserforum.com/nord-stag ... hilit=hack
As the NS4 has 3 synth engines per program, you could have a velocity triggered synth sound with 3 "velocity" samples.

But I understand the thread need is to generate Nord sample using loop points in the WAVs themselves, which is possible using the nice Python or the EXE files created by Eriknie !

By multi sample I mean just a set of notes of the same sound recorded over a scale of keys. My apologies, I should have been clearer .
I normally use just every third key in a scale from D2 , F2, G#2, B2, C3 and so on. I’ve only recorded the organ sounds from my Wersi and Crumar and a few string machines so there is no touch velocity layers needed.
I used sample robot to map and loop them, then Awave studio instrument wizard to turn them into SF2 for importing and playing the samples using my Yamaha Genos or Ketron SD90.
As I have moved away from arranger keyboard because I’m fed up with it’s automatic features getting in the way of my natural playing ability , I just was curious whether the Nord sample editor would work as a converter for my SF2 samples into Nord samples without too much work.
Thanks for the info on the Python. I’ve since been watching some of the YouTube tutorials on editing samples and it doesn’t seem difficult so I’ll give it a go .
Besides , at first I’ll want to explore the onboard sounds and parameters. My Nord Stage 4 88 arrives tomorrow all being well. :)
