No signal

Postby GalluZz » 08 Jun 2022, 14:02

Hi, i just bought a ns3 88. It is my first nord and my first electric piano at all. i know it will take ages to understand most of the functions. At the moment i am quite frustrated, because i get no signal out of it. At first i put the sutain cable into the controll pedal input, maybe that changes some settings so i have no signal now? maybe someone can help. Thx

Hello and welcome to this forum!

Connecting the sustain pedal to the control pedal input should not cause no audio coming out of the instrument. How did you connect the NS3 to your amplification, and did you enable the sound section (like for example piano), pulled up the volume of the sound section and the master volume control?

It might be useful to read the manual - that's different from a number of other digital pianos. You have 6 sound engines included in your Stage 3, organised in 2 panels of 3 engines (organ, piano, synth). Apart from the correct signal routing of your audio out, you should have an active program (which you always have) with at least one panel enabled and at least one sound engine assigned to the keys with more volume than 0. Plus the master volume set to more than 0.

As there are a lot of programs predefined on your Stage 3, you should play around a bit with the program selection knob.

Well, putting the sustainpedal on the control might indeed cause no sound coming out. Depending on how it is made, it might turn down volume to zero. But however, after restart, it should be normal again.
The Nord Stage is a very simple structured instrument. Read the manual. Wer lesen kann ist klar im Vorteil. Use some headphones, they should always work.
Press the panic button, this resets all signals to default.

Maybe your cable is placed in the output channel that doesn't give signal. Check your output routings by pressing shift (hold) then press system. Flip through the pages and you should be able to view the routings. By default it should be 1-2 and in this case your cable should be placed in channel 1 and 2 as no singal will come out of channel 3 or 4.

Also Kaafimusic suggested to try headphones which should work... and try both (either the small headphone jack through monitor or the 1/4 headphone big jack through headphones)

Yes true, haven't thought about that ..

In general RTFM is the best advice to start with a Nord ;)

No problem - this a very friendly community :)

It' really helpful to read the manual and understand how a Nord works, the manuals are far better and much more valueable than some of Nord's competitors

Haha, thank you for your honesty and welcome to the Forum! If you don't have a control pedal yet, you'll find it to be a very worthwhile investment. Good luck to you.
