Moog EP-3 - Nord sage 2ex88

Postby spaviram » 18 Feb 2018, 05:09

Hi everyone !

I just got the Moog ep3 expression pedal, it looks really great, but my range is a bit small.
Can I reach 0-100% range?
Right now I only have 54-100%, it changes depends on the model I choose and the setting of the nob on the right.

Help .......? :keyboard:

If you turn the knob clockwise all the way and you are still not getting the full range, then there may be a problem with the TRS cable. Do you have another cable to try?

mmm not now I don't , but I'll check it.
It's a cable the I got from moog so I think it suppose to be fine.
Can I use regular 1/4" cable or it has to be special..?

I have the EP-3 and a Stage 2EX, works perfectly.
By adjusting the knob, I get the full 0-100% range with either polarity.
Don't know what could be wrong with yours...

I had a similar issue. That cable included with the pedal was bad. My dealer replaced it.

There are two types of 1/4” cables that are typically used as follows with a keyboard. There is a TS (tip/sleeve aka unbalanced) with one black ring that is used to connect the audio out to a mixer. There is also a TRS (tip/ring/sleeve, aka balanced) with two black rings that is used to connect control pedals as well as the mixer to your amplification.

In your case, make sure you get a TRS cable for your pedal. A TS cable won’t work.

This exact problem just happened on my morning gig!

I have two Moog EP-3 going into my NS3 Compact and they have worked fine until today.

Now the Moog plugged into the Organ Swell input and set to control the master volume. As of this morning it will only bring the volume down to 53%. The Moog plugged into the Control Pedal input is still giving the full range.

I just updated to 1.36 last week.

What happens if you swap the cables at the pedal end? If the problem follows the cable, then replace the cable, otherwise, it's either the pedal or something on the Nord.

I would recommend the following cable of you're using two pedals - that way you don't have to wait for the other cable to go bad:
https://www.kraftmusic.com/hosa-css-203 ... 4-trs.html

This is the cable my dealer gave me as a replacement. What's nice is that I leave the ends that plug into my NS3 stuck together, while I pull apart the ends that plug into the pedals enough to reach. I use black for Control Pedal and red for Organ Swell. Never have to guess which cord goes to which pedal when setting up for a gig.

Did it work when you updated to 1.36 ...?

*And thanks everyone, the explanation on the TS / TRS was helpful !

That's the weirdest part. It worked before and just after I updated. But then Sunday morning it wasn't working.

I wrote the above post while I was at the gig itself so I haven't had a change to switch cables out. I'm using the TRS cables that Moog ships with the pedal, so I know that they are the correct cables. And again, they were working perfectly before.
