MIDI presets for NS2 in Set List Maker
Hi all,
I've created the attached file, which can be imported in Set List Maker to configure MIDI presets.
Using this, I've managed to configure the NS2 by selecting a song in my setlist, which is pretty cool.
Note: you must first define a midi device called 'NS2' in your Set List Maker database before importing.
See also http://www.arlomedia.com/apps/setlistma ... songs.html for more info.
Kind regards & enjoy!

Re: MIDI presets for NS2 in Set List Maker
Thanks, that's very helpful for people starting out with Set List Maker. I've been working with SLM for the past month or so, and I was re-assured from others posts on this forum that whilst it's hard work initially to input the data, it really is worth it.
I had my first gig using SLM last night and it was amazing to finally use it. I was ready for the next song in a split second. I felt so organised. I now have the freedom to create NS2 programs and save them to the next available slot and never have to use the Nord Sound Manager to re-arrange them into order before a gig. Being in a covers band using a varied set of programs and an ever increasing list of songs, this is one of the best additions to my set up (and it all looks great too with my K&M 18950 keyboard stand holding the iPad and mic).

With SLM, I took the approach of entering only my Nord program-named MIDI presets intended for songs rather than import all banks and programs named generically with the position number. I maintain a spreadsheet in the correct format in columns so I could export and re-import if there were any major problems. I also enter song details on the spreadsheet so I can print a hard copy just in case SLM/iPad fails on the night!
I was wondering what approach people took with SLM and their Nords. I could import all banks and all programs into SLM to speed up the process next time I add a new Song. Then I could re-name the MIDI presets in SLM to whatever I name it on the Nord, so it matches. That is helpful for selecting MIDI Presets you can recognise in SLM when a Song doesn't exist and also working with SLM away from your Nord. Of course it does create more maintenance in future if you ever rename a program on the Nord.
Technically, there is no need for matching MIDI Preset names to the Nord IF you always create Songs, select the require presets (carefully) then job done!
So far I haven't shared any shared any presets between songs. I may use up more NS2 programs but I can tweak and save during a performance without affecting another Song.
Apologies for all the rambling thoughts.
Final tip: purchase the SLM add-on to backup your database. The sync add-on is also great if you have more than 1 tablet/smartphone. I must remember to backup my Nord too - I've put a lot of hours into it!

Re: MIDI presets for NS2 in Set List Maker
Hi Paul,
I guess I have some kind of the same setup with my NS2/NE4D and SLM.
For each song I have a dedicated midi preset. And for some specific midi presets there is another child item (midi preset).
I made also some generic midi presets (that act as those child items) like for Clavinet, Piano/Strings, Hammond.
So I can reuse those presets.
With regards,
Bart

Re: MIDI presets for NS2 in Set List Maker
So far all I've really done with SLM is type in boatloads of lyrics (main thing I want/need it for), but I'm very glad to know that we have resident experts here in this forum for the day when I find the time to go deeper into its capabilities!
Bless,
Pablo

Re: MIDI presets for NS2 in Set List Maker
I use it the same way. I have entered all my Midi devices with their midi channel (stage 2, channel 1, D50 channel 2, Nord lead2x channel 3 etc...) and I have created a midi preset for each song. The midi preset is attached to the songs, like the audio, scores, tempo and notes. Then, when you click on the song, all program changes are sent to each midi devices automatically.....what slow down a little bit the process in some songs is that when the D50 control the XV5080 or the Matrix, I need to put the D50 midi channel on the same channel as the receiver....
But it works very well and faster than to change all programs one by one on each modules or synths....
The most difficult in fact is just to have the drummer and the guitarist stopping to play between songs when I just need 20 seconds of concentration to make the program changes and to be ready for the next song....
But you know what I mean.....not to forget when they start and forget that on "money for nothing or jump or don't stop believing.....keys start first....

Re: MIDI presets for NS2 in Set List Maker
Perhaps it´s a silly question: How do I connect the ipad with my NS2? What kind of cable do I need?
As I found out on my own, I don`t need an iRig, right? That`s only for older Keyboards without USB-Midi.

Hi Georg,
You can use a normal USB A/B cable together with the camera connection kit cable from Apple.

Re: MIDI presets for NS2 in Set List Maker
I also use SLM. I play a lot of session work, and have now many databases, 1 for each band I play with. Within each database is a list of all the relevant songs, and midi presets for each song in each band. I then have a number of shows for each band depending on where their performance is. I work with 2 keyboards - the NS2 and a Korg M50, with the M50 set to receive on midi channel 2 and the Nord on channel 1. SLM has proved brilliant for switching patches mid song, as in some cases I have assigned many different sounds to the same song on different keyboards.
I use Irig2 to connect all devices together, and make copius use of the 'learn' function in slm when assigning a new midi preset. I did try to make a 'common sounds' page for those adhoc gigs, but this needs a bit of work. I use it with an ipad which fits onto my QuikLock stand. The only downside is the irig hangs awkwardly down the back as I have yet to invest in a stand for this. Would recommend SLM to anyone!

Re: MIDI presets for NS2 in Set List Maker
Yes that is possible. Im trying to guide you through (since my app is in dutch because of my iOS settings)jbowers wrote:Does anyone know if it is possible to make SLM send midi program change info when you click on the song name, rather than having to click on the little midi button? Clicking such a small icon on a phone screen seems problematic...
Database > Settings > Automation > Section:"Actions for song selection" > Send midi
This should do the trick!
