Making samples

Postby mati89 » 07 Dec 2018, 15:30

Hi.
I wanted to learn how to cut samples from songs to be able to later use them on the instrument. I do not know where to start. Maybe someone will help me ??

Is it possible to split mp3 into parts. Example separately vocal, guitar, piano ..... I read that it is impossible. If so then where to get the original samples for the song

Generally, unmixed tracks are not available. Some albums have been released in multi-channel surround, where you might find a sound you're after isolated on a single channel. There was also a company/product called jammit that had some tracks available, but they're gone. There are programs that remove center channel ("vocal eliminator") which can make it easier to grab a sound that is panned to one side. And there are apps that are getting better, which have various levels of success in extracting what you're after. Check these links...

If it is impossible to cut a given instrument, then there are so many samples available on the forum.

Hello,
No need for a DAW (you mentionned FL Studio) to cut samples.
You can use one, of course. But a free software like Audacity is enough already to slice wav files.

Now, splitting songs into as many files as there are instruments... As said before: Not possible... or only in very very specific situations.
I've read here and there that some unmixed tracks were offered (for people to mix the song to their taste, for a contest for instance) but apart from that...

The samples you can find on the forum are either "full" samples (so parts from songs with all instruments playing) or maybe parts of songs where only one instrument is playing (like in a break or an intro), or they are reproductions that members re-made from scratch. Never seen a full deconstructed song.

Could be handy though... To take the keyboard part out of a song so you can play with your favorite band. :-)

I make absolutely no guarantees as to security/safety and ultimate usefulness... but if you’re brave enough, try your desired song title, and the word “stems”, in your favorite web search.

I always try to find out what synth was used in a song and than I try to recreate the sound, using a VST.
Than I sample it.
