Low B3 Volume On Some Notes - SOLVED

Post by Falcon2e »

Hello gang, I thought I'd share some info that may be helpful to know. First, I've had my NS2 for three years, but lately I happened to notice some notes in the high range seemed a bit weak on volume. I have a Vent, but I only use it on certain songs. Sometimes I prefer the onboard Leslie sim for the effect I want.

What I have discovered is that simply using the NS2 'stop rotor' button (while I'm using the Vent) is the problem with the high notes having a weaker volume, probably part of the sample modeling. By actually turning the on board Leslie sim off (gray button under Drive), the B3 patches sound RIGHT. Just thought I'd share...Cheers!

That's really just what you'd expect to happen. Effectively you can consider a Leslie sim to have two main components - one modelling the effect of the rotors turning, the other modelling the effect of the Leslie cabinet itself. Turning the rotors to stop still leaves the cabinet part of the simulation working - and amongst other things, that's going to give your sound a massive reduction in treble. By leaving the internal sim on, then although the rotors are stopped, you're still effectively doubling the amount of treble reduction by chaining the two cabinet sims together - hence the weak volume on higher notes. Nothing to do with "sample modeling" - the Nord organ works by pure modeling anyway, no Hammond samples going on there.
