I currently have a Yamaha CP5 Stage Piano on which I can layer up to 4 sounds, each with a defined note range, and where the volume of each sound can be changed independently
Eg
- Acoustic piano – full note range
- Bass guitar – low note range only (obviously!)
- Pad 1 – mid note range only
- Pad 2 – higher note range only
I use 2 different pads as I find – on a variety of boards – that a given pad sound generally only sounds good (to me) in a particular note range
Question
- Can I repeat this setup on Stage 2? Or a Piano 3 or 4?
Thanks

Re: How many layers on Stage 2?
Not really, but kind of.
Stage 2 can let you split/layer your piano with up to two non-piano/non-organ sounds, but you have three (bass, pad 1, pad 2). Two possible workarounds: (1) create a custom sample by sampling the two Pad sounds you like, each in their preferred ranges, and make one loadable sample out of them, or (2) grab a second pad sound from an external device (e.g. iPhone, iPad, WIndows tablet) and add it as a layer using the EXT function of the Stage 2.
(Nord PIano would be worse, you can only layer one non-piano sound, and there's no EXT function.)

OK!
Thanks for your reply.
The sampling to combine 2 sounds looks really interesting - however would there be a quality loss in doing so?

Also can you point me to more info on using a sound from an external device?

Re: How many layers on Stage 2?
I have another possibility for you. Can you find one of the Nord pianos whose bass notes could simulate a bass and use that ? That way you use two pianos, two synths. Obviously, you will have better luck simulating an electric bass, possibly with one of the EPs.

Check the manual, p. 40 (Extern section).

I've also used left-hand organ bass in the past.
Might that be an option?
