For those using NS3 music stand...question on dimensions
Hi forum,
My NS3 is packed away and I can't easily get it to take any measurements at this time, so I though I'd ask if anyone can help.
I am going to start working on a project to build a small shelf off of the back of my NS3, using the music stand holes with some long screws or dowels and an L-bracket type thing. I may build a prototype and then have my welder friend make a better one.
Is there anyone that can tell me the dimension of the holes for the music stand?
Thanks so much!
Eric

Re: For those using NS3 music stand...question on dimensions
How exact should it be? Is mm ok or do you need inches?

Thanks! I believe mm should be fine and my guess is that Nord has it in mm rather than inches in terms of the size of the Nord music stand support holders. I would be able to translate mm to inches, if needed. I just want to start shopping for some parts and having this dimension is a helpful starting point.FZiegler wrote:How exact should it be? Re: For those using NS3 music stand...question on dimensions
The bolts of the Nord music stand seem to have exactly 6 mm width. They seem to have a distance of 423 mm (+/- 0.5 mm) from center to center. This is the easier part.
The bolts are 42 mm long, but fit in a plastic base each that add some further length (~20 mm). The base sitting on the edge of the instrument is rounded with sth. like 5..7 mm radius.
Maybe the drawing makes it clear: Is this the dimensions you need for the moment?

Re: For those using NS3 music stand...question on dimensions
I purchased some acrylic from a plastics company and had them cut, heat and bend the bottom angle about 15 degrees so I so I could make mine. I also purchased a small amount of 3/4" square arcylic that I drilled 6mm holes that were glued to the back of the stand. I purchased some 6mm stainless rod, cut two 4 inch pieces and bent them about 15 degrees then glued into the blocks . If anyone is interested in more details of dimensions let me know.

Re: For those using NS3 music stand...question on dimensions
This thread is really helpful and I've started getting my shelf project going.
At my local Lowe's home improvement store, I found the 6mm screws (they are referred to as M6) and the longest ones they had were 60mm (which is about 2.5 inches). Turns out that for my NS3 Compact, I need about 80mm length and couldn't find those locally. I ordered some from Amazon and they should arrive soon.
My plan is to cut a thin sheet of 1/4" plywood to be 18" wide - this is the full width across the NS3 Compact brackets. I will make this about 5" deep, with the intention of holding a Roland JX-08 Boutique module. I'll drill holes in the board so that about 1/2" will rest on the back lip of the NS3 and the screws will go down into each of the brackets. I also bought a few L-brackets that I might install if needed for extra support.
Presuming this all works, I'll use some Velcro to keep the shelf from moving and also velcro the JX-08 on top. I have a few rubber feet I may also install to have the back of the JX-08 elevated to tilt a bit.
Once I have all of this in place, I'll either use the Monitor input on the NS3 or jump to my extra snake cable that is coming out of NS3 output 4, though never really used. The issue I see with the Monitor input is I can't find any way to adjust the volume other than the JX-08 volume, which doesn't seem to have as much gain as I'd want.
I'll keep you posted and share some pictures of this as I get it built. Thanks again!
