Hello, I bought a second Nordstage 2 EX 88 and made a backup of the whole first one and restored to the second one. But especially the pianosounds sound different on the two keyboards with exact the same settings (as I told, restored from the first Nordstage). Is this possible? Thanks for your opinion!

Are they both using the same OS version?

Re: Different Sound on 2 Nordstage 2 EX 88
Hi,
Shouldn‘t be like that. As I‘m an audio electronics engineer myself, I have only 2 possible reasons:
1. Different hardware version of the two instruments (with maybe different digital analog converters ( the hw version is somewhere printed on the instrument)
2. One of the two keybeds is worn out more as the other one, so the instruments react differently on dynamic playing.
Cheers,
Eumel

As Eumel says + "different" means all and nothing, what are the "differences" you are experiencing, exactly?
How do you do the comparison?

Re: Different Sound on 2 Nordstage 2 EX 88
I tested this now:
Changing the output from 1&2 to 3&4 to check, if the output socket is bad... no difference
Hearing with the headphone output... also no bigger difference (headphone of course sounds different, but the problem-frequrencies seem to be similar)
Playing about a midi-keyboard Doepfer D3M, to test, if there are differences and the reason is in the nordstage-key's... also no bigger differences.
So I think, I can exclude problems with the output-sockets and with the keys itself.
So there remain different hardware/soundengineparts. The serial number of my first Norstage is about 2000 higher than the used purchased, where the sound is different.
The differences in sound are a more sharp/harsh sound, less bass, and perhaps a little bit more distorted. Of course this is very subjective.
Until now I didn't a EQ compensation, because I am a little bit disabled person in the moment. I did break my left shoulder while skiing 3 weeks ago and cannot use my left arm very much for bigger sound-experiments. But I will test it in the next days, after take some painkillers
The comparison was to stick both Nordstages after the other into the same mixer-inputs/PA and play the same. After weeks of finding the best sound 4 weeks ago I have the sound in my ears relatively exact , so I immediately heared the difference.

Re: Different Sound on 2 Nordstage 2 EX 88
What happens when you "initialize" a section in both instruments?
Can you make a recording of the two NS2s? (or are you comparing from memory)?

I never did use a "initialize" function. What does it mean? How do I do this?
Hmmm, yes, I could do a recording with the mixer. Will try this...

Re: Different Sound on 2 Nordstage 2 EX 88
Hi, See the manual for the initializing. Shift+ProgramBank C.
It sets all the parameters to a default, so then you could compare e.g. the piano section initialised ib both kbds. That would guarantee that they are set *exactly* the same.
Maybe you could initalise all the (organ piano synth) sections and try the same piano sample in both kbds. It may be a long shot, but we are running out of ideas!
"Compare from memory" meant only that (not side by side but 'remembering' that it sounded different, so it would be subjective).

Re: Different Sound on 2 Nordstage 2 EX 88
O.k.... I compared "by memory", but only seconds later, just putting the cabels from one to the other...
"Initializing" I will try later and also then I will put both keyboards at the same time to the mixer with the same settings on the mixer, so the comparing will be even faster, just walking from one keyboard to the other 3 steps
