Hi all,
I have a Casio Privia PX-150 with a USB 2.0 Type B and my NS3C. I would like to play the piano sounds from my NS3C with the Privia. I want the easiest possible solution to allow the Privia to act as a controller for the Nord. I have been looking into how to accomplish this and I think I need a USB MIDI host...
Do I need a USB MIDI host?
Is this the most reliable option?: https://www.amazon.ca/midiplus-USB-MIDI ... B074NGTGHN
Thank you!

Re: Casio Privia control NS3?
Hi Jason,
Basically yes, you will need something like the mentioned box.
It also depends where and how you wanna use it
At home only: you can also use your computer to pass thru the signal (with Logic, MainStage if you’re on a Mac, or any DAW pretty much, or with a dedicated app for MIDI functions)
Anywhere: if you use an iPad already, you can get a rather cheap hub (if you have a lightning iPad, you’ll need the camera adapter kit too) and use something like the app Midiflow to pass the signal thru
Based on past experiences shared by NS3C owners using an external controller, you might also consider some sort of velocity converter to get the best experience possible with your hammer action controller - the S3 compact behaves different with a hammer action because it is programmed for the waterfall keys

Just my impression, Martin: I would guess that it isn't because of the waterfall keys of the NS3C and would rather expect that all Nords are compatible in their velocity curve; that's what Chuck reported, too, with connecting the NS3C and Piano 4. So we should consider the Nord family to have a specific velocity curve all together which isn't the same as with other brands. That's what I suppose. And why I was thinking about a) buying a Nord Piano myself (2400 EUR) or only a velocity converter (150 EUR); the only thing I don't have with the latter, is another Nord Triple Pedal.

Re: Casio Privia control NS3?
I have a Mac mini. both the NS3 and Privia (Casio) are linked to my computer via USB only. Both keyboards have separate audio outputs. I am trying make the Casio a controller for the Nord. I am new to MIDI configuring but have watched a few videos. I am using Midi Studio on my Mac and attempting to have the Casio control the Nord. I have MIDI out on the Casio connected to MIDI in on the Nord. However, if I press a key on the Casio the Nord does not receive the signal or output a sound.
MIDI settings on the Nord are global 1, panels A/B off, Dual KB (1).
I have garage band, but it seems to me the MIDI configuration tool in the Mac should create the desired effect without the help of Garage Band.
I need help getting the signal from the Casio to the Nord using MIDI Studio on my Mac.
Thanks in advance for any help provided here.

Hi Jason, unfortunately the wires you see in the MIDI Configuration of Mac OS are only a "visual tool", but you can use the free MIDI Patchbay https://notahat.com/midi_patchbay/ to "patch" the MIDI of your Casio to the NS3, it is pretty straightforward to use

Thank you Max. Unfortunately the app is outdated and will not work on my Mac. I looked around a bit and can't seem to locate an updated version. Are there updated versions somewhere that you know of?

Not that I am aware of, I am still on Mojave so it works for me, the best alternative anyway is there and is called ... Mainstage
