Sample the Sound of Ocean Waves

Postby makonkeys » 11 Apr 2019, 19:18

Hello!

I'd like to include the sound of the Oregon Coast into my set, but I'm not sure how to use the sample I have in the Sample Editor. When I piped it through the editor & downloaded to the Nord, it plays continuous while I hold the key. This would be fine if the sample didn't sound super compressed into one note, like a saw wave.

it's not really an instrument that I'm sampling, so I'm not sure how to remedy this issue. I wouldn't mind have the sample play then pressing "KB Hold" to keep it going, but I don't hear the waves like they're suppose to sound.

Anyone have any thoughts? Has anyone sampled sounds besides other instruments in the Nord Editor?

Thanks so much in advance!

Did you check this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PR69z7EKWao
It helped me when I first started sampling.

You need to loop your sample manually, not let NSE loop it for you (most important) and then set it as an Unpitched Sample (so it will play the same across the keyboard), but watch the tutorial video linked by MvanD, first of all (if you haven't already seen it)

PS: "sampling is an art" and as all arts it takes time to study, learn, practice, make errors, retrials,...

Also, if you don't need to have your Ocean Waves sample in stereo, the sample size (and required sample memory in your Nord) can be cut in half by creating the sample in mono. Take care.
