learning Programming on my stage 3. Starting on Night Rangers Rock in America.

It sounds like there’s a synth layered with the guitar during the intro, then there’s a
Fast arpeggio sound, and then a synth under the verse.
Would appreciate some ideas on how to start these sounds. Thanks in advance

Re: Night Ranger - Rock in America
One approach would be to use a guitar sample with distortion in Panel A for the intro behind your guitar player, use a vintage synth sound in Panel B for the verse, and just use a digital piano for the fast arpeggio part. I have a few guitars posted at nord-stage-3-programs-ns3p-ns3pb-files-f32/rock-guitar-a-couple-programs-t17012.html and the second synth I used for a Cory Henry song might work for you at nord-stage-3-programs-ns3p-ns3pb-files-f32/snarky-puppy-lingus-cory-henry-solo-t16294.html If you like the second synth, save it as a new synth pre-set in your Stage 3 and then add it to the guitar program in place of one of the guitars. Listening to the song, I would try to set up three sections (two split points) - Panel A: B3, Digital Piano, Distortion Guitar, Panel B: B3, Digital Piano, Synth, and then switch between the two Panels as needed. Hopefully this will give you a decent start, take care.

Re: Night Ranger - Rock in America
As I can hear there is no synth in the intro, it's just a guitar with a lot of chorus and flanger, a typical van halen guitar sound I would say. The overall feeling of the song is very van halen-ish anyway...Let us not forget that all those hair metal groups of this era were highly affected by Van halen's technique and massive sound. You can create the intro sound by layering an overdrive guitar sample, as WannitBBBad said, with a simple sawtooth wave, tweak the filter to find the sweet spot and apply those effects. The main songs consists of a classic b3 rock organ and a typical Jump-style synth sound, check this video on how to create it (it's not for nord stage but that kind of 80's sound is bread and butter for nord's synth engine) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eev8PnamjKA. For the arpeggio sound all you have to do is morph the attack and decay of the same sound to make it shorter and sharper, and maybe close the filter a bit. Very enjoying song to play, have fun!!!

That's a good thought alex78, here's a link to "Jump" by Van Halen to check out the synth: nord-stage-3-programs-ns3p-ns3pb-files-f32/van-halen-jump-free-to-a-good-home-t15857.html#p112686

Re: Night Ranger - Rock in America
We play that song. There’s a fair amount of Hammond organ in that song. I use the stage 3 for the organ in the intro, chorus, and during the guitar solos. I use my Roland Jupiter 50 for the arpeggiated run before each verse, which I made out of a midi file. There is a synth during the verses which I also play on the Roland which I did as a sawtooth with portamento applied to it. I also use the Roland for the rising synth sound between the choruses after the guitar solo.

Here’s a clip of some of it. This has my electro 3 which has since been replaced with the stage 3.
