I've done some searching here on the forum, Nord's site, and the internet...not finding much. I'm curious if anyone has done any Roland TB303 "acid" bass samples or tried to get this out of the NS3 synth engine? I have a song to learn that includes a bit of this sound and was searching for some starter material.
A few of the synth bass samples on Nord's site are promising.

Does anyone have any TB303 bass sounds or tips to share? Thanks so much!
Eric

Re: [REQ] Looking for TB 303 Bass Sounds
I never heard of the TB 303 until your post. I looked it up - it's amazing how much music was affected by a discarded Roland product just by folks simply being creative. A great article about the TB 303 is at https://mixdownmag.com.au/features/the- ... -all-time/
Paired with a sequencer, a NSMP3 sample of a pattern you created, or playing around with the arpeggiator for a similar effect, you could get a lot out of the Stage 3. Getting the sound is very much the same as what's discussed in the first video - turning knobs. I don't have my Stage 3 right now, but using a classic wave like the pulse, start with Mod Env settings of Attack 0, Decay 3, Release 0 to get a quick drop from the Filter Mod Env setting of 10 down to the Freq setting of 1. Resonance is used a lot. On the Amp Env, set Attack 0, Decay 10, Release 1. Get a pattern started, put the Stage 3 synth on hold, then start turning the knobs. I'll mess around with it when I get back to my Stage 3. Good luck, take care.

Re: [REQ] Looking for TB 303 Bass Sounds
As an example of my post above, I took a wave file I created for "Fame" posted at https://www.norduserforum.com/nord-stage-3-programs-ns3p-ns3pb-files-f32/fame-irene-cara-sequencer-sound-t20935.html?hilit=fame#p142097 and made a NSMP sample to play around with. I added distortion and played around with a couple knobs. Using a sample of a sequence is not as flexible as using a sequencer or the arpeggiator for easily changing the base sound and other parameters, but you can still getting something from it. Take care.

Re: [REQ] Looking for TB 303 Bass Sounds
Thanks so much - that's a really good sequence and sounds quite realistic. The song I'm working to learn is "Bankrobber" by The Clash and it has some squelchy bass things starting about 1:07 in this video:
https://youtu.be/ttJBdr6eBuo
There are also some low vocal/choir things at the start and throughout the song that I'll probably do with one of the Nord Mellotron male choir sounds (or a layer), along with some piano, the TB-303 bass hits, plus some fun mono synth starting around 3:00. It should be a pretty cool song to learn.

Re: [REQ] Looking for TB 303 Bass Sounds
Interestingly enough, I found the main sound I need by doing a better scroll through the NS3 Synth Presets - there's one called "Acid Bassline" that is pretty much a spot-on TB-303 bass. I made a few small tweaks and loaded up another funky synth bass in Panel B of the attached Program file, if anyone wants to check them out.

Glad you found something, I'll try it out when I get a chance. Looking at the TB-303 panel, it looks like the user had a choice of either a sawtooth or pulse wave, and the controls are all familiar with the exception of "accent" which worked on the pattern created to accent the tempo (one less manual thing to do). I was curious and looked up the User Manual (PDF below) - not for the faint of heart Take care.

Wow, you’ve never heard of it? It’s the Ah-men break of synths - a single item that spawned an entire genre of music (Acid; while the Ah-men Break is the basis of all drum & bass).

I know! When I used to hear the music I always thought it was simply a sequencer paired with a synth, any synth.

Yeah, it’s one of those „oh! That’s all it is?“ things.
