Do I have this correct? Is there an easier way to do this- I've looked at numerous videos and the manual and done many searches, but it took having my nephew come over and figure it out and walk me through how to actually get a program installed on my NS3:
To download a program from a forum:
So when you go look for a new program online, you will see that there are three file:
.nsmp3 is samples needed to run the program
.ns3f is the program
.mp3 is just a recording of some guy demoing how the the program can sound in action
First download the .nsmp3 samples, put them in the downloads file (happens automatically on my Mac)
Then download the .ns3f program file
Now go to the sound manager
-go the sample library
-click the “sound download” icon while in the “sample lib” view
-might need to make space
-click “browse for files”
-go find the .nsmp3 file you just downloaded
-click “open”
-it is now downloaded (takes a few seconds)
-move to the “program” view in sound manager
-click on the “sound download” icon
-find an open slot (one with less than 25 programs), M works
-browse for files
-click .ns3f file you just downloaded
-click “open”
-it then downloads very quickly
Now look at the program and see if there are any yellow highlighted “unknown” samples
If there are, then you click “relink” icon
- then find that sample you just downloaded— it could be anywhere
-click on it
That should do it.

Re: How to download and install a program from a Forum
Warning: sending a Program from computer to NS is called "upload" on Nord Sound Manager, correcting that (i.e. replace "download" with "upload" in your procedures) the rest is fine and there are no "shortcuts"; in some cases the patch creator may provide a .ns3pb (bundle) file which contains Program+samples "all in one" or if no samples are needed (or they are already loaded on the NS3) you will just do the Program upload, of course.

Thanks, Max- I'll correct that in my notes and add the .ns3pb file types as well.

Re: How to download and install a program from a Forum
Thanks for this info. I found an awesome program, but the creator did not include the files for the samples as well. I suppose then I need to go to the Nord Sample Library to find them. A few questions.
1. I have to make space to add samples. I'm worried about deleting samples because they may be used in other programs or synth presets. Is this a valid concern?
2. A lot of programs use synth presets instead of samples. Is that a different type of file from the sample file you described above?
Thanks.

Re: How to download and install a program from a Forum
Hi,
1: Nord Sound Manager will show if samples on your Nord Stage are unused or not, so it’s easy to identify those which can be deleted without any concerns.
2: yes this is different from samples. A number of synth presets are delivered with the factory install of the Stage, others can be loaded into it with Nord Sound Manager. The file extension for synth presets is .ns3y, these are included in a bundle file of a specific program like also pianos (.npno) and samples (.nsmp3)

2. (addendum) a Program always includes its Synth settings so there i no need to have a separate synth preset file to use it.
