Find Sound Nick Semrad Prophet 08 Rev2

Postby stefmazurier » 16 Sep 2018, 17:49

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for the sound of Nick Semrad on his Prophet 08 or prophet rev2 accompanying Cory Henry and the funk apostles on the piece Trade it all at 3'25, we can also see it on the site of Clavia.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_cont ... oPiGvpePXo

Thanks for the Pro who will find a similar sound on Nordstage 3.
Thanks thanks thanks.

Wish I could give you a good technical answer, but OT how freakin good is Nick? Bummer that funk apostles cancelled their Zurich gig later this year

I'm hearing a polyphonic glide. I can't think of a way to achieve that on an A1, which I guess is equivalent to the S3 (except S3 has 2 slots compared to A1's 4?). If the intervals in his progression were always the same, I guess you could build the chord by detuning slots, apply glide to all, and play it with one finger. But that's not what Nick's doing on his prophet. It's an interesting sound

Great playing in this song. The Prophet Rev2 has layering and I assume one sound can be in mono voice (unison) and the other polyphonic, but not sure if the mono voice will track the highest note played in a chord - it sounds like it to me. The old Prophets would track the high note that way and I'd love it if the Nords could be capable of tracking like that when in mono voice, at least as an option. On my Prophet 10, I could combine the upper and lower synths with one being in mono with glide, which added a bit of flexibility in playing - it's one of the first things I looked for when I got my first Stage. What I'm hearing is a dominant top note with glide and the other notes with a similar polyphonic sound. I tried a split with two synths on the NS3 last night, one for mono part, and covering the filters and volume with the mod wheel. It's a little harder to play with the split than being able to play with both hands like in the video and just have the high note tracked - this at least might get you started.
Update: The program was revised 9/22/2018 to add the mod wheel also covering the drop in pitch which required using OSC2 for the primary voice.
Update2: As Nick starts to "open" the filter (turn up the Freq) more as the song picks up, the program was revised 9/25/2018 with the filter applied to the Control Pedal (rather than volume). I also added two additional programs that achieve the same sound but each accommodates a different playing technique as follows:
"NS TradeItAll W.ns3f" is the same as previously posted but with the filter applied to the Control Pedal for when the song picks up.
"NS TradeItAll2 W.ns3f" swaps the Control Pedal and Mod Wheel functions. The Control Pedal is used all the way up, and then backed off quickly to pull the pitch down and "open" the filter.
"NS TradeItAll3 W.ns3f" is the same as 2 but with left and right hand sounds swapped.
Take care.

Excellent le son, S'il vous plait, pouvez vous intervertir les commandes "Whell" et "CTRLPED" pour pouvoir modifier le son en jouant avec le pied ? modifier l'OSC et la Freq avec le pied cela serait top !!
Merci d'avance !!!!!
Excellent sound, Please, can you swap the "Whell" and "CTRLPED" controls to be able to modify the sound by playing with the foot? change the OSC and Freq with the foot that would be top !!
Thank you in advance !!!!!

Listening to the song past this part, Nick opens up the filter (increases Freq) more for the sound when the song picks up, so the solution may be to put the quick change to the filter and pitch on the control pedal, and have the filter only on the mod wheel. If I kept the mod wheel as currently programmed, I'd keep the mono voice on the left as well because it's much easier making the quick change with the mod wheel and going back to a single note than going back to a full chord. I'll post a couple options later on this. Thanks

Effectivement, je pense que tu as raison, je vais laisser la main gauche en mode mono.
J'attends avec impatience tes futurs posts à ce sujet.
A bientôt et encore mille merci pour ton son !
Stef

Indeed, I think you're right, I'll leave the left hand in mono mode.
I look forward to your future posts on this subject.
See you soon and another thousand thanks for your sound!!!

Hello, I edited the post above to cover the keyboard sound more thoroughly and accommodate different playing styles. Hope that works for you and others. Take care.

Hello, Great, bravo !!! you master the Nordstage very well, apparently!
Can you tell me please, if you have time of course, if it's the same sound in the following intro:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXpxBtSfiNg

I love this sound mais, but I can not manage the kind of "bend" on the attack of each chord! you would be you ??? ☺️☺️
Thank you, it's nice to meet Pros!
See you soon
