downloading Rhodes sound

Postby muskeg » 18 Sep 2022, 01:36

I wonder if someone could help me with what is probably quite simple but is causing me major frustration. There's an electric piano sound called EP5 MK1 Bright Tines that in the sound demo on the website sounds amazing (found under Sound Libraries/electric pianos).

I would love to get this sound onto my Stage 3. I downloaded the sample and dragged it into the piano library (running Mac). When it's in there it says there are numerous sounds using that program, and lists them. These are sounds I've already had in the keyboard (with different names) and none sounds like the sample on the website. Is there something I can do to get the sound I'm looking for?

What you downloaded is the basic instrument sound. It will usually not sound like the sound demo which comes from a tweaked preset: with FX, drive, EQ and reverb added, maybe compressed a bit, too. As you have a Stage 3, you have a full set of possibilities at hand to get that basic sound tweaked the way you want it.
That's what it is all about with Nord sounds: You have a lot of knobs and buttons at hand and will need to learn to use them. It took me more than a few months, but I enjoy that game. Maybe, you start with 3 knobs: Timbre (piano section), Drive (amp sim) and Reverb.

That Rhodes is already part of the Factory Programs & Samples of the NS. So you had no need to add it, if your NS3 is new or you had made a restore of the Factory Backup.

I suggest you start with a clean Program (make a Program Init as "Piano") and select that sample in the piano section, then as Fziegler suggested start trying to adjust it to your likes using (in this order) the Piano section EQ options (Soft, Mid, Bright, Dyno 1/2), Reverb, Drive and its Eq and finally other effects (Auto Pan or Tremolo, Chorus, Phaser).

Another option is to start from one of the Factory Programs using that sample and modify it, you may also download and try the NS3 dedicated Program Library made by Ondre J https://www.nordkeyboards.com/sound-lib ... nature-eps and use those as a reference or starting point.

Thanks very much @maxpiano and @Fziegler. This is a whole new world for me so I will take your suggestions and give it a go.
