Hi all,
Im new to the forum, so thank you all for your kind and helpful replies.
I did mention this in another post in samples, however I was wondering who out here has bought the 76 key version of the stage 3, and wished they go the 88?
Im missing the low 'C' sometimes, but not sure if its that important when playing live gigs?
I know its an extra 6-7kg and another £200-300, which isn't a real issue - so in two minds, as Ive only a few weeks to make my decision before having to commit.
Thx all

Re: Does anyone miss the extra octave between 76 and 88?
Hi,
I have got an NS3 88 in addition to my NS3C and don't think I would miss the extra octave very much but would for sure miss the feel of the keybed, For me the keybed on the NS388 was the most important reason not to buy the HP76, it suits me much much better for Piano than the other one.

Thanks
So Live you wouldn't miss that extra low register?
I also thought it would be useful also to pop external or internal samples etc at the top to trigger etc...

Re: Does anyone miss the extra octave between 76 and 88?
Probably not because the lower frequency spectrum is covered by our bass guy anyway, so I don't play much there. If I have to because it’s a piano only intro or something I would probably do an octave shift on the 76key to play the lower bass part the piano sound in case I would have a 76HP (which will never happen )

Re: Does anyone miss the extra octave between 76 and 88?
In my opinion, it's you who'd have to know about kilos and key ranges for your settings.
You should take Schorsch's hint seriously: It's not the same keybed if you are talking about Stage 3-HP76 and HA88. There is a considerable difference - where the HP76 is optimized towards weight and the 88HA towards a 'synthable' light hammer action.
And take into account that you were talking about splits: The Stage has only 2 splitpoints per octave, so you always need a little key range to set up a KB zone. I think, on the HP76 and the HA88 you have a different number of split points, too (not sure, though).
As far as I'm concerned, I'm perfectly fine with my NS3C (73 waterfall keys) using a piano MIDI keyboard for piano sounds (and not needing the 88 keys for that, too).

Split points are exactly the same on my NS3C and my NS3 88, I would therefore expect the 76HP to have the same ones as well

Re: Does anyone miss the extra octave between 76 and 88?
Thanks all,
I think with my playing style I do need that extra lower piano register for those rich low notes and double the bass guitar in many of the covers we do.

Re: Does anyone miss the extra octave between 76 and 88?
So you've answered your question - go with the NS3 88. $200 to $300 is not that much more looking at the total price and I would not like to save it at the cost of missing the lower octave every day if it's really needed by you as you said

It depends on what type of player you are and what kind of music you play, also are you within large band? Do you play sometimes Duo or Trio... Many times I play keyboard with singers as only one instrument or maybe with guitar too, so for me and my style 88 is a must have. I would never ever go with less than 88 keys for my primary keyboard (at least for now). I have had Roland Fantom 7 with 76 keys, and I really missed that 12 keys. I'm glad I have my Numa Compact 2x now with 88 keys.

Re: Does anyone miss the extra octave between 76 and 88?
That was my other question, it is a toss up between getting the Roland Fantom 8 88 or keeping this Nord Stage 3 and swapping git out for an 88 version.
I know the Nord piano is probably the best BUT will the Fantom be a better live keyboard, its only 4-5 kg difference in weight.. HELP!
