Abba - Gimme Gimme Gimme

Postby timkeys » 03 Jan 2021, 13:31

Hi

Does anyone have the sounds and/or program for ABBA’s Gimme Gimme Gimme ?

I’m attempting myself, but can’t quite get the right sounds for the song

If you know what the original sounds were, and how they were created, that would be helpful too

Thank you
Tim

Ps it’s for a NS3

Hey,

have a look at this topic: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3433

You can download the nsmp File and convert it into a proper Stage 3 file. :-)
Regards,

Janni

In order to get the bass synth, strings, and high "flute" sound in one program, I took the approach of using a Stage 3 string sample and adding a high triangle wave with OSC 2 (balancing the two with OSC CTRL), leaving the other for the bass synth. The high triangle would sound closer to the original using one panel for just that (perhaps using the 4MB sample from the post above) with appropriate LFO/Ring Mod effect, and using the other panel for the strings with a longer release, but the bass synth would have to be covered by another program or keyboard. The second program below is an option without the bass, with Piano/Strings on left and high Synth/Strings on the right. Hopefully these programs can get you started whatever direction you choose to take. Take care. Note: Synth bass updated in Dec 2022.

Update Jan 8, 2021: Trying to take my mind off the recent events here in the U.S. I spent a little time putting together a better program capable of covering the whole song and another making use of the sample provided by Funk76 in the Stage 2 post. To use this some manual changes are needed throughout the song. In the MP3 for the first program, the White Grand and strings start out the intro, I then manually select MONO mode for the Panel A synth and use the Mod Wheel ("MW") to turn up the synth "flute" on OSC2 and back out the piano, and then turn off MONO mode and back off the MW to get back to the piano/strings. A B3 is set up if you'd like more emphasis in the middle section. NOTE: You can adjust the MW morph on OSC2 to blend in more strings if you want it to sound like the MP3 for "Abba Gimme x 3 W.ns3f" above. Note: Synth bass updated and chorus on MW morphed to "flute"/strings in Dec 2022.

For the second program, I loaded the sample provided by Funk76 in place of the Panel B bass synth and kept the strings in Panel A but without OSC2. In the MP3 for the second program, the White Grand and strings start out the intro, the MW is then used to turn up the Sample and back out the piano, and then the MW is backed off to return to the piano/strings combo and I added the B3. For both programs the control pedal is set up to change the level of the B3 and Panel A Synth. Don't forget to load the sample below if you choose to go that route. Take care.

Also, am I right in assuming you can layer two different sounds in the synth module ie a sample from the keyboard and an oscillator from the synth, effectively layering two parts in the synth module ?

Simply press the Panel B button to get to the bass synth.

Yes, but a limitation is that the attack, decay, release, and other synth settings affect both OSC1 and OSC2, so the settings have to be chosen that work well for both. It's a little different than layering two completed sounds, like layering the Panel A synth over the Panel B synth that can have completely different characteristics and effects applied. Though the choice of OSC2 sources is different than OSC1, OSC2 adds a great deal of flexibility to the synth including the capability to affect the waveform of OSC1. My link below will take you to a lot of programs I've put together and it also has a link to Forum member "My Keys To Music" who has quite a few videos on Stage 3 programming that may be of help to you. Take care. LINK-> nord-stage-3-programs-ns3p-ns3pb-files-f32/for-those-new-to-programming-t15748.html

Ok, I believe the orchestra strings legato plus the triangle wave at 12 semi is fine for the lead. What about the synth bass? how would you approach it? which presets?

Hello, I'd suggest downloading the program "ABBA GmeGmeGme W.ns3f" above and checking out the bass I have programmed. Good luck!
