I came close with a work around (can unzip them using Terminal but I just can't figure out where they get extracted to). Another work around for now will be to ask a 'friend' to zip them for me. seems like there's no problem when I get zips from others. I am unable to zip the bundles by double clicking, instead I have to open them via 'get info' - so this is where I thought something's up with my Archive Utility, in that I am confused and unaware of what app or utility should be selected. Many trials and errors, but I will keep on trying things. Thanks so much for all the info provided.

Hi Mel, just to verify: can you let us know exactly all the steps you have made on your Mac after you have downloaded the .ns2pb file from the initial post of this thread?

yes my finder preferences look like yours, the top box wasn't checked, but now I checked it, thanks!

Steps I take with the bundle download...I click on the Cake.ns2pb file from the forum (file in initial post), the file goes to the download section of my Safari 14.1.2 browser and as I do with all my downloads, I drag the file to my desktop (maybe this is wrong, lol). The bundle file is red and white box, as it should be a typical Nord bundle file.
Next, if I double click the file, naturally, it opens my NSM app, since this recognizes the file type. So, this is one difference - if it were a zip file, I can double click and it unzips the contents to 'finder'. So for the .ns2pb file, I'm having trouble 'compressing' it or making it a zip. I try control-click to get to the properties, and I can rename it there, or click-hold on the file, to rename it there. It appears that I am able to rename the file extension to .zip

However, I notice on the .ns2np files, when it gets renamed to .zip in this fashion, the 'zipper' becomes encased by the application, for example, its green when using Archive Utilities, or black when selecting Terminal. I had downloaded an outside app as suggested above ('Unarchive') and had no luck with that process either, so I deleted the app. (may have to try again)/

At one point I did get the file to unzip using Archive Util, but tried it again and it didn't work. I also was able to type in "unzip' using Terminal and drag the file in and again, it worked, but I couldn't locate the extracted files.

As all can see, I have to figure it out and come up with a process. the means to the end is probably something so simple.

If I can unzip using Terminal - where do the files extract to? I cannot locate them/.

With the top box checked, you should now be able to rename the bundle files to have a .zip extension using Finder. You will get a confirmation pop-up - make sure you click on "Use .zip". You should then be able to unzip the files using the Finder. I can post some screenshots if you need to see the steps.

When you are using the Terminal to expand the files, the unzip command puts the files/folders into the current working directory (folder). From your screenshots, it appears to be unzipping in your Home folder, which is normally in the Finder Favorites list as your user name. If you look there, you should see 3 sub-folders: Piano, Program, and "Samp Lib". The files you are looking for are in folders under those folders.

OK, YAY, I figured it out. for now anyway I can change the file extension to .zip and open Terminal and in Terminal cd space desktop (change directory to desktop for example), then type 'unzip <space>' and drag my zipped bundle in to Terminal. If I respond YES to the archived files which appear in Terminal, it will create folders on desktop with the respective samples and program files.
So, I can do this now, thanks to all for listening to me. I will be continuing my study of zip bundle files and appreciate your assistance!

I will also try what scarlock says above! I haven't yet tried it again via Finder...

For now, I got what I need! THANKS

Hi Mel,

I have started up my old MacBook (mid 2021 with macOS Catalina) just now (was posting the .zip file in my previous post from my Windows computer) and tried to unpack the bundle there, ran into similar problems at first after renaming the bundle to CakeByTheOcean.zip and trying a double-click on it from Finder - it actually says that the file format is not supported so there seems to be an issue with the integrated unzip capability of Finder

I then tried "WinRAR" which is available at the Mac app store and was able to open the .zip file with this app and export all files into a folder at the desktop. I suggest you try this app for future use...

Unzip from Terminal does work as well, but the files will be extracted into your home directory which you can access from Finder by the "Go To" option in the menu bar and then click on "user folder" (or something similar, I am on a german version of macOS and don't know the correct english menu item names). However, just using the unzip command from Terminal does not collect the extracted files into a specific directory so you are losing the structure and it's difficult to identify everything which belongs to the bundle. You better use the following command in Terminal which creates a new directory (called CakeExtracted in this example) on your desktop and extracts the whole content of the bundle directly into this directory:

unzip /Users/maryellenleonard/Desktop/Cake.zip -d /Users/maryellenleonard/Desktop/CakeExtracted

Hope it helps a bit ... best regards

Schorsch

I instantly felt pain from the thought of this being an Apple/Mac issue...knowing they'd be the last resort to try to get help from. It also didn't feel great to place this on the forum's shoulder, but alas, I got more support here than anywhere.

I played around with the terminal folders and agree with what you said, they're terrible and all over the place. But, I still like using Terminal, so THANK YOU for the string!!! It will help a great deal.

I also downloaded The Unarchiver app again and gave it another whirl, glad I did, I can change the files to .RAR (which I've seen others talk about in forum), I didn't know what it meant at the time, but same as zip, I know NOW what it is and it's great to consolidate and compress. This app produces 1 folder, on desktop, with everything neatly inside.

As I mentioned previously, I downloaded the macOS Big Sur, and backed up my files in anticipation of installing, but will hold off now until much later, since I'm back in the water! I do think this post can help others...not sorry, just grateful!

Hi Mel,

WinRAR deals with .zip files too, so you can use it to unpack zip files with it easily.
