Hi all.
I bought a Piano 4 in July 2019. The middle C got stuck in the down position after the third gig with the new Piano. The note actually came out of the red panel so it ended up in a ramp position. The only way to get it back in position was to stop playing and push the rear of the note back in place. This happened again on my next gig on Sunday. I took it straight back to the retailer. There was no problem their end regarding a change over for a new board, which I did yesterday. The action on the new board feels a lot tighter and much less noisy than my original Piano 4. The guy in the shop played both actions side by side and noted the differences straight away, without even turning them on! He also said he's not really a piano player. He put it down to someone in the assembly line having a bad day.
The shop had a Nord Grand on display. I had to try it out. First impression is the action. Absolutely beautiful. It has a smooth and even feel. It's responsive enough for all styles of playing and works so well with the piano sounds.
I spent most of my time with the White Grand but all other sounds worked really well.
On display, above the Grand, was another Piano 4. So I compared the actions and general feel. I played a few phrases on the 4 and, to my surprise, the same thing happened to the middle B that had happened to my original Piano 4... it got stuck in the down position and had exited the red panel!
I am not a heavy handed player and wasn't thumping the notes at all. I owned a Piano 2 from 2012 until May 2019. It never failed in any department. It had been gigged at least 500 times.
I'm not posting to have a rant and get angry with Nord. It's more of a surprise that something so simple can be so wrong. If it were a software issue I'd understand.
Poor fitting of keys on two instruments shouldn't be happening.
I'm a pro player. I've owned 2 Electros, a Stage 76 and a Piano 2. This is the first problem I've experienced with Nord.
I still love their piano sounds and I still think they're the best out there. I'm hoping I won't have any more problems with the replacement board.
I've set my new Piano up today and will report back if there's any more issues with this one.
By the way, there is no comparison with the action on the 4 and the Grand. The Grand feels like a real piano. But the cons are the extra weight, and its size. Plus of course, the extra cost.

Re: Piano 4- Broken Key
keeping in mind that Nord does not make the NP4 keybeds, Fatar does. If anyone was having a bad day in the assembly line, that was a Fatar someone, not a Nord someone.

Re: Piano 4- Broken Key
I'm not saying that Nord doesn't have responsibility for their products. Each individual note is tested more than once by Nord before any instrument leaves their workshop, but they can't take them out and gig them three times to find out how each key will hold up under real world conditions.
Nord stands behind these instruments and will fix whatever needs to be fixed when something goes wrong. My point was to counter the image created by the OP that Nord has sloppy people on their team doing sloppy work because they're having a bad day.

Re: Piano 4- Broken Key
I didn't write the post to have a go at a bloke in the Nord workshop. I wrote it to point out a fault that has happened, after 3 "real world gigs" light playing with the Piano 4 transported in the Nord case.
As I've already said, I owned the P2 since 2012- 2019, and didn't have a single problem with the action. To own a brand new P4 for 3 gigs and have a problem like this is odd. To then go back to the retailer and try the demo P4 and have the same thing happen is a concern. Maybe I'm over reacting. Maybe I should be grateful that the retailer exchanged my original board and keep quiet. Or maybe it's a common fault. Who knows.
