I find the 305s to have sufficient bass where I have no desire to add a sub, but I gravitate towards a moderate volume, clean, accurate sound for programming I’m not saying the 306s won’t sound clean and accurate, but before you spend the extra money, consider the increased size and weight, the fact that you will be angling them towards you which will push them further into the room, and how loud you’ll be able to play without disturbing the neighbors. For the difference in price, you could get the 305s and have $160 to put towards headphones where you could really crank the bass. Of course, if you have the room for the 306s, you may regret not trying them and always wonder how they would have sounded. Either way, you’ll have a great pair of monitors.

+1 on all ajstan's point. The 305s work well for me in the home studio, plenty of bass. I have all connected components gain staged to moderate levels, and the 305s set to 8, and in that setup I can crank out more volume than I'd ever need. The extra spend for the 306s gets you some watts and (reportedly) 2 Hz extra low freq. Cost-benefit!

That is very helpful feedback, ajstan and CountFosco -- much appreciated, and duly noted on all counts! Indeed, I would definitely prefer to avoid having to worry about a sub if I can help it (so that's good to hear re the 305s), but I do also like the idea of the slightly broadened frequency range/response to maximize the authenticity and "realness" of Nord's superior sample sounds, especially since I have experienced what seem to be some minor transient distortion issues with the open-back headphones I'm currently using.

Do you recommend particular monitor stands, as well? I was considering these from Gator Frameworks since the corresponding isolation pads will ideally prevent the chance of unwanted resonance, especially on a hardwood floor: https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail ... tor-stands

The Gator stands look almost identical to the OnStage stands that work just fine for me. You'll want isolation pads so it's nice that they are included with the Gators.

Awesome, great to know (and I also stumbled upon those OnStage ones -- they indeed seem to be more or less exactly the same -- but the current Gator isolation pad deal is definitely a bonus). Again, really appreciate the feedback; this thread has 100% sold me on the monitors/stands, and I will certainly continue to weigh going the JBL 305 or JBL 306 route based on those good points above.

Hi all, quick follow-up question about the aforementioned JBLs -- I finally had an opportunity to hear them in the flesh alongside the Yamaha HS5, ADAM Audio T5V, and Kali Audio LP-6 at a Guitar Center and observed that they did indeed appear to emit the "white noise" hiss that many users had mentioned in various online reviews. Have any of you JBL 305P owners experienced the same/were you able to circumvent the issue with balance adjustments?

any opinion on which option will be better in flat monitors: A. 2 way (kh80 neumann or adam a5x +sub) or B) 3 way (dynaudio lyd 48). Thanks for your answer !!!

After listening to quite a few monitors before buying mine, I can confidently say that most common monitors offered in stores today are just awful, with muddy bass and unrealistic tone. They mostly benefit from sophisticated YouTube marketing and hype created by people who have an admiration for brand names but not so much an ear for quality. Personally I ended up buying the Gershman Acoustics Studio 2 monitors. They pack an insanely deep bass and a sound so natural that it feels like there’s a real piano in the room. Not as cheap as a common monitor, and require an amplifier, but they double as my Hi-Fi speakers I got my money worth. Highly recommend to look beyond the “usual suspects” you can see on most music store shelves.

Definetly: Don't buy the Nord monitors: too expensive and not really good in sound quality. I hate my Nord monitors since I've heart how good others can sound.
Safe this money and buy very good monitors which will be more expensive (+200€) BUT worth it.
