Nord Grand Keybed

Post by weavermark »

My Nord grand is back in the shop again, repeated problems with keybed issues

At this board for about two years, it has repeatedly had problems with individual keys all over the upper reGister not just one key

Specifically, the sound is distorted and too loud at any keystroke at all at any velocity
Sometimes by gently setting the key down all the way you can get it to reset, but sometimes it can't be reset at all. I ended up taking it back to the shop.
And this board has never been out of my living room and I keep it covered whenever I'm not playing it

I've had it in the shop they suggested cleaning and replacing the polymer elastomer keybed
but now they're telling me that I need to get a complete new key mechanism, keyboard mechanism, and that the Nord manufacturer is unhelpful and supplying parts and information in between my service agent and Nord pointing the finger at Kwai I'm going nowhere with the keyboard, that I actually really love

So they're telling me I need to replace the keyboard mechanism for about $1300 post to shop time

Something sounds really wrong with this whole situation

Any Nord users out there that have any suggestions

Thank you

Re: Nord Grand Keybed

Seems to me that the problem is related to the Kawai RHIII triple sensors that measure key off key on and mid position (for let-off). I am not aware that the keybed pad contains a sensor. My gripe is with the hard keybed pad which produces too much mechanical sound.
This link shows the sensors the action and they are not on the keybed.
