Interesting, I have the opposite feeling. I have a Kawai CN27 with RHIII action as my home "piano".
To me, it's WAAAY heavier than the FATAR TP40 in my Stage2. Actually, heavier than most real acoustic pianos I played in my life.

That doesn't mean it's unresponsive, it has a wonderful dynamic range and you can play it very fast...but you have to work for it!
Actually that's the reason I chose it over a Clavinova which tend to have more forgiving keybed. After decades of playing only portable pianos and unweighted actions, I was feeling that my technique and finger strength was really degrading. So I deliberately chose a demanding keybed that would force me to re-learn proper technique and rebuild finger strength.

Of course, these are my personal feelings and anyway they may or may not apply to the Nord Grand, depending on how much the action has been modified.

So, I made a small experiment playing the sounds of my Stage 2 EX from the keybed of my Kawai CN-27, that has the RH-III action from which the Nord Grand's is derived.

Notice the small and practical 88-key red expander module

Wow. It definitely makes a huge difference. The piano samples come to life with a degree of control and playability I never felt with the FATAR keybed.
I also found that all 3 pedals from the Kawai worked normally so I got full Triple Pedal functions (except pedal noise). That was great because I never owned the Nord Triple Pedal, it was really nice to try out those "new" functions. I was a bit surprised at how much the "una corda" pedal affects the sound...even more than in my old acoustic!

Oh my...now I'm lusting after a NG.

I am really excited to get mine. It's another three weeks until it arrives. I hope the RHIII action does not have any issues. I am taking a big gamble getting the first release of the NG...

As an ex Kawai MP7SE owner, and lover! I’d suggest that Nord has absolutely done the right thing here.
I think the Kawai RHIII action is way way better for piano players than the TP40 (whatever version) .

Well done Nord at last you’re putting a piano players action on your pianos.

For those people that like to extract every drop of emotional expression out of their piano playing this is the way to go. For people that just play parts, it probably doesn’t matter and they won’t get the fuss.

Thought I should share a few words.
I took a huge gamble and bought the Nord Grand from Kytary at a discounted price and it arrived just over a week ago. The keybed is wonderful. I agree that the TP40 in the Stage 3 is perfectly fine for general use in a band context but this is a step above for any solo or serious piano playing (I’m no talented player btw, more singer/songwriter) I feel like I’m sitting at a piano too and the whole sound, feel and look is very inspiring.
That panel lock button is needed though if you play anything like me!

Now, where do I find a case for it...!

With the lock button engaged does it allow you to select a different piano? Or is the "entire" panel locked?

You can change programs (i.e. another piano or whatever is in the new program) also in lock mode. As it says in the manual: "To allow for program changes even with Panel lock active, the Program dial is not affected by this function. also, the Program 1-5 and live Mode buttons can still be used, but need to be pressed down for one second to have effect."

Excellent! Thanks, Guys. I did not see that in the manual.

I can confirm that none of the buttons or knobs are active other than the Master Level and Prog/Menu knobs while the Panel Lock is active.

I too owned a Kawai MP7SE for a short while. The keybed feels very similar, but playing the White Piano etc from the Nord Grand is what I was missing.

I'm in the process of deciding between the Kawai MP11SE or VPC1, paired with a Dexibell Vivo SX7 sound module, or a Nord Grand.
Haven't played the Grand yet, but I have played the MP7SE. And while the keybed is really good, it's nothing like the MP11SE or VPC1.

There's no way of knowing in what way Kawai's RHIII keybed has been customized for Nord, so I'm hoping someone here can tell me. I like the feel and touch of the MP7SE, but the keybed isn't completely silent.

Check this :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3LeMPHKRrE

I know that the Fatar keybeds used in the Stage 3 and Piano 4, for example, aren't very good, and noisy. But hoping that someone can make an objective comparison between the Nord Grand and the MP11SE/VPC1 as far as keybed noise is concerned. The Kawai MP7SE is a LOT quieter than the Piano 4, for example, but I'm kind of hoping that Nord has modified the keybed to make it near silent.
It's rather simple : if the Nord Grand isn't as quiet as the VP1 or MP11SE, I'm not buying it. Makes sense : the Nord Grand is a very expensive piece of kit, so I think it's normal that we as customers expect nothing but the best...
