Hi,
I'm considering a a Nord Grand so I've been reading many reviews and opinions.
One of the users, a pianist, said that the Kawai keyboard in the NG feels really good, however, he felt that the Nord samples did not do it justice (too compressed / not enough velocity levels / etc).
However, when he hooked it up to a computer and used it to control piano VIs, he was blown away by how expressive the keyboard control could actually be.
Unfortunately I can't remember where I read that review, but would really like to know if anyone else here feels the same way?
If that's true, I wouldn't mind at all since the characteristic of the onboard sounds should work very well in a live/stage setting, and when I'm in the studio or at home I could use it with an external instrument (VI or h/w) and make full use of its keyboard capabilities - What do you think?
Thanks!

Re: Nord Grand, customizable velocity curves?
I'm contemplating the same "issues". I love my NG in many ways, but I'm often frustrated by the velocity curves for the samples. So, I'm researching if someone can customize the velocity curve of individual piano samples. Seems you cannot. I may move away from the internal sounds for home playing in favor of VIs with velocity customization. If I could go back in time, I would not buy the NG. It's good, no doubt, but for the price, no way. I wish I had bought the Kawai ES920.

Re: Nord Grand, customizable velocity curves?
Customizing (point per point ala pianoteq) the velocity curves for a piano-centric instrument should be a must for any brand. Period. Maybe with an external software interface... Whatever. Instead, even Yamaha has made a step backward in this regard from cp4 to cp88 to follow nord's philosophy. Kawai has some more options but not fully satisfying (I could work with an hex editor anyway with my mp7se to obtain what I wanted)

Re: Nord Grand, customizable velocity curves?
I too now regret buying the NG, just because the sample set isn’t adjusted for the Kawai keybed velocity, and it’s a major issue that’s been a slow burner. But it determines the character of the instrument, and it’s a flawed one.
As in the Kawai MP7, the NG doesn’t need more than three piano types, so a new Nord Grand only sample set would be welcome, if the velocity can’t be user customised in an update.
It’s interesting to see that very few of Nord’s chosen artists play the Grand and obviously prefer the Fatar actions.
I wouldn’t recommend buying a Nord if you’re looking for a piano experience.

Re: Nord Grand, customizable velocity curves?
I don't think nord artists chose what instrument to showcase in nord videos.
I don't think nord piano library is less suited to nord grand curves as opposed to fatar actions, even if I admit I prefer the 1.54 firmware curves as opposed to the 1.60 curves, and I hope nord will give us a "legacy curves" option in the next update.
I'm getting the better electric piano experience in my life with the NG, way better than what I've had with any yamaha cp5 cp4 cp88 and kaway mp7se I've had before.
It's just personal no?

Re: Nord Grand, customizable velocity curves?
Is there any risk by downgrading from 1.60 to 1.54?
Does a downgrade effect (besides velocity curve) other settings f.e. what happens to my existing sound library?
Thanks in advance

Re: Nord Grand, customizable velocity curves?
I went back and forth something like 10 times before deciding to stick with 1.54. No problems whatsoever. I've had some gig with 1.60 so my decision is a well tought one. 1.60 are definitely less Dynamic. 1.54 are a big part of the NG action pleasure and value to me. Couldn't disagree more with Nord decisions here.
