Hi everyone,
I purchased a brand new Nord Grand about 2 months ago.
First of all I thought I was imagining it.
But it does sometimes make a clipping sound .
I’ve tried to make it repeatedly do it by playing fast runs up and down the keyboard .
But it just seems to do it very rarely.
I’ve tried 2 sets of monitors and cables ,
I don’t record as I bought it just to play at home in my lounge.
I also hear a low volume of noise as I play in the higher octaves when sustaining the notes.

Re: Nord grand clipping sound when playing
Actually
And I’m not sure if your supposed to do this .
If a use the bright eq filter in the piano section as well as the standard eq and use the compressor the amount of white noise is ridiculous.
Is that normal…

Hi, Paul-
Which piano sample are you using?
Are you going to an interface before the Monitors?
If so, what is it and how is it gain staged?
Does it make this noise with no EQ, piano filter, or compression?
Can you hear the same noise through headphones?

I’m going straight out of the Nord to the monitors.
Yes it also does it on headphones
Just tested and it does it all all pianos and sample section

Yes you can also hear it without eq but lower .
If you hold sustain pedal down and run up the keyboard it sounds louder as there’s more notes playing

Re: Nord grand clipping sound when playing
Can you relate the clipping to velocity? Something intermittent like this is extremely difficult to isolate unless it can be reproduced at will.

Re: Nord grand clipping sound when playing
It does it at any velocity but not all the time
Ive had it from new for about 6 weeks approx
I thought i heard it after just a week of having it then it seemed to stop but now ive got to know it better and notice it more and more

Re: Nord grand clipping sound when playing
I was going to suggest to lower the Nord's output volume and increase the monitor volume (thinking that the signal was too hot), but if you are sure that it happens with all sounds and with headphones, there might be something else going on. An audio snippet would be useful.
