Look forward to see the project finished. I wonder if the resonance and amplification of the vibrations from the original frame would be comparable to speakers in the sound board (if that is what you are building), but it would surely look great.
Perhaps you have thought about this, but just in case I will mention it: I would take extra care to avoid any sawdust getting in the key contacts or in the silicone grease of the mechanism.

Re: DIY building my Nord Grand into old Grand Piano
Spider wrote:Wow, that's some SERIOUS DIY project, congrats!
Congrats for the idea, for the determination to put yourself at it, and most importantly for the courage of tearing apart a brand new 3500€ Nord Grand!
There was a user who repainted a Nord Grand in glossy black laquer, to make it like a grand piano.
Another project I admired, but would never do myself...
Just out of curiosity, what will you be doing with the screen and control panel? Will you integrate them in the front of the piano, or hide them somewhere where they're not too visible?
I have no advice to give you because I don't own a NG, but I hope you can finish your project and that it sounds even better than before!
Hi spider
Im placing the display just over the key bed lid. So I had to carve out in the original panel of the piano. Then spartel 2 times, two x paint and 2 componant lacque and polish. I didn't get the high gloss black finish I hoped for, but Im a first time spray pinter, so I actually didn't know what to expect. And most of what Im doing here, I haven't done before. So in some wierd way Im satisfied with my result. I seem to get satisfaction every time I succeeded doing something event though the result is not perfect.

Hi mr G
I did indeed think about that since the white grease (libricant of some sorts) will suck all dust, spoons etc. So I have been very carefull covering the key bed. And its still functional
