Small piano samples rock

Postby cphollis » 05 Dec 2016, 07:14

It's been mentioned several times on this forum, but if you play in an electric band with reasonable volume, ditch all those larger piano sample formats, and go straight to the SMALL size. No one will ever notice, and you'll end up with this HUGE palette of piano sounds to work with during gigs.

I have two Piano 2s with limited memory. They both now have SIX grands and FOUR uprights, in addition to a full complement of Rhodes, Wurlis and Clavs. So much more fun during live gigs, matching different piano sounds to different songs.
I think I have gear issues ....

Surprised no one's replied...

I honestly feel all of these pianos sound better WITHOUT string resonance and all that stuff.... I prefer to play them with a touch of reverb, without long release and string resonance.

What are all your thoughts? Thanks!

I feel it's a good thing that Clavia propose both very faithfull samples for purists, classic solists or home work, as well as lighter versions for older instruments with less memory) or people playing in (noisier) bands.

I tend to limit the number of samples I load because I then face the problem of choosing one or the other... As I play in bands that don't play covers, I don't have to stick to such or such sound. I just do as if I had a little set up of cool instruments, and make my own from that.

Often limitations are not for the worse.
