Re: Review one month in and amplification problems
Interesting and thanks for this guys.
I have always used the left out and activated the Mono option as had assumed this was the 'correct' thing to do if not playing stereo, but i guess the 'correct' option doesn't always sound the best.
When I go next I will try the Right output and check out the difference.

Re: Review one month in and amplification problems
There are about 4 ways of playing mono:
1. Left channel only (gives more prominence to lower notes)
2. Right channel only (gives more prominence to higher notes).
3. Mono button (according to Clavia they do a "weighted mixing" of the two channels to avoid phase cancellation)
4. DIY mono (you mix R and L in a mixer, or sum box or a Y cable [not recommended])
1 and 2 appear to sound better (to some, me included) than 3, while 4 is the worst in terms of phase cancellation.

Re: Review one month in and amplification problems
I mostly use a Bose L1 model 2 with the B2 bass mofule and tone match mixer. It's a mono system but sounds incredibly great. I use both LR outputs in to the mixer - I think it sums better than the mono switch on the Nord but that could be totally subjective. Good headphones is great for solo stuff and the stereo image is great but the Bose in mono sounds amazing.

I take the same approach when hauling only one speaker. Both channels out directly into both inputs on my QSC K8.2 or K10. I think it sounds fuller than the mono button. I don’t hear phase issues.

Are you sure option 4) works? I tried it when I was 10 and the sound was so "scratchy" that I learnt it the tough way and I have never done it again? Is it possible that "newer/more recent" keyboards/speakers will accept that?

Re: Review one month in and amplification problems
Option 4 may work best when using something like the JDI Duplex which does a decent job in “monoing” a stereo signal

Re: Review one month in and amplification problems
You should also experiment with various Piano samples. Depending on how the sampled instrument was mic'd, some work better in mono than others. I've settled on the Silver Grand as my preferred piano sample for playing in mono. There are other pianos that i much prefer for other applications, but most don't hold up well in mono.
