Yes, and it really helps. I'd also assume that the "velocity curve" of your setup is the culprit. Matching the action of your MIDI OUT device (the Sauter) to the response of your MIDI IN device (the Stage) may be difficult, and a less than optimal match may downgrade the playing experience.

Nice grand, by the way!

Thanks to both of you, quai34 and maurus!

I have never really gone into midi except for connecting keyboards and computers etc. So the "velocity curve" was a new term for me.

I have a Piano Disc system from 2005. I see that later versions have options for adjusting the velocity curve, but I don’t find any info about that on my system. The sound trough the NP is rather sharp and a bit distorted. And I think it is a bit the same when connecting to logic on my laptop. But I will investigate this a bit more…

And yes, maurus, I love the Sauter - it has a great timbre/resonance/sound

1) don't know but it's a question I would hope Nord would discuss with them or any other improved keybed maker.

I believe Kawai makes all their own actions. (They are a piano manufacturer, after all.) I don't think they'd have any interest in selling their actions to their competitors. Their actions are why some of their customers buy their products instead of Nord's in the first place.

Another possibility, I think temperature may make a difference, i.e. it may play differently if cold (i.e. after transport in certain areas or certain times of year) than it does once warmed up to room temperature.
