Italian Grand XL flaws
Ok maybe im nitpicking but.. one would expect no flaws on 2500€ instrument with great piano samples. I already mentioned discord between two notes in volume in my other post (ok, I can get over that...) but now i noticed one more thing that's quite annoying. There seems to be microphonics or some high pitched sound when pressing third E note from the left, quite annoying when you play chords and hear that sound. This is by far my favorite Grand to play, the sound is just.. beautiful, and so far there are three flaws. Luckily haven't found anything wrong with other samples.

Re: Italian Grand XL flaws
FWIW, I don't think I hear this in the default Italian Grand Large sample on a State 3 88. Nord has fixed some errors in previous samples, most recently in the EP8 Nefertiti MKI, so please report it to them officially.

Re: Italian Grand XL flaws
Noticed another terrible high pitched sound on second F# and 4th B from the left on Bright Grand XL. Another one of my favorite grands marred. Also on E Grand 3 Stereo CP80 amped med. right in the middle all notes from C to E, just awfull. And thats their meticulous approach . I'll go now and check the L samples of both. Im actually quite surprised nobody noticed or complained about that
Confirmed! No high pitched annoying noises on these notes on both (Bright Grand, Italian Grand) L samples.

Re: Italian Grand XL flaws
Ive tried the XL italian on my Stage 2 EX and cant hear anything awfully amiss on the keys you are mentioning.
Can I ask how it is you are hearing these imperfections. Is it through speakers? Headphones.
On my older Yamaha stagepas system I had a few complaints of certain samples when I first bought my Nord, but when i upgraded to the better EV setup the same issues were not there so I believe it was either something vibrating in the room or an amplification/speaker issue.

Sounds good to me, too. Italian might be my least fave grand, but it definitely sounds ok. Headphones and JBL LSR305.

Well, when you play real-world high-end pianos, you will inevitably hear small flaws. That's what makes them acoustic pianos, even desirable.
I own a high-end acoustic grand. Stupid money. It has small flaws, like most physical things.
I find the small flaws totally endearing. Just like with people

I own an immaculate gloss black 1976 Yamaha U3. Ok, not a high end Grand Piano....maybe someday.... Anyway...
What made me finally go for Nord was the Grand Pianos. That natural 'flawed' realistic acoustic sound. The closest I have heard to the real thing, 'warts' and all.
In the music shop I directly compared the Stage 3 88 it to the Roland RD 2000. (Same studio monitors) The Roland had a 'perfect' piano sound, almost 'too perfect'. Processed even. To me, the keyboard action was marginally better, with a lovely fake ivory feel on the keys.
However, coming more from an acoustic piano background (as well as lots of years in bands playing Yamaha, Roland and Kurzweil keys) I found the Nord piano sounds so much more natural and lifelike, more 'musical' even. More realistic, less processed.
So like Chuck, I love my acoustic piano along with its small flaws and I love my Stage 3 Grand Pianos for the same reason. The closest you'll get to a real piano sound.

Re: Italian Grand XL flaws
I think a lot of us do.
I played the Korg with its huge GB's main German Grand. I had the Roland previously with the SuperNatural Piano. Ive had the CP4 with the CFX and CF. I Had the Kurzweil Artis with the German D Grand on it. All are pretty good but as you said above... almost too clean, too perfect, and real pianos dont sound like this.
Ill take my Nord sounds anyday

Re: Italian Grand XL flaws
Have not heard the issues mentioned in this thread. I have to agree that the sounds of the Nord are head and shoulders above any other keyboard I've played (Yamahas, Rolands, Kurzweils, even the Coakley piano in the EMU which was very good...). The Nord is far superior - warts and all. I have a Yamaha C7 and Nord's version sounds like my best recordings or live micing of that piano. I've recorded with a Steinway as well and the Lady D again feels like I'm listening to the best recording of that piano. Every sample has its strengths and weaknesses as do each acoustic piano. I just couldn't love the samples more. Sadly - the Fatar keybed is like a link of clay in a chain of hardened steel links. God I hope the NP4 is done with a different keyboard partner. Or - just make a rack mount unit and let me pick the controller I prefer. That Fatar keyboard is really weak. The piano samples - grand, upright, electric, Rhodes/Wurly - just stunning!!!!

Re: Italian Grand XL flaws
I have a NS2 EX 88 and I agree with your comments about the Fatar keybed. I have convinced myself that Nord made this compromise because of the need to accommodate organ and synth players but this keyed really is not up to the mark for pianists used to playing Steinways and Bosendorfers, or indeed any good quality acoustic. What keyed was used on the NP4, does anybody know?
