Hello,
My NP88 shipped yesterday from Thomann.de without a power cable in the box, no USB cable, no DVD-ROM and no User Manual. Good thing they put the Pedal in there.
So anyways, I find a power cable (since they're all universal) and plugged it in. Absolutely LOVED the piano. The keys feel excellent (I'm a pianist not a keyboardist), the dynamic range is amazing and the sounds are top notch.
After 10-15 minutes of playing and fiddling with the sounds and the Nord Sound Manager, an E flat key, right above middle C broke down. It wouldn't come back up and it was dead for sound. I could not believe what I saw: A 2,000 euro instrument broke in 15 minutes of playing.
An instrument that was made for gigging and "on the road" life and all that jazz. My previous keyboard was this 6 year-old Casio Privia PX-100 and even though people do say I've got a heavy touch on my hands, I did not manage to break any of its (crappy plastic) keys in all that time.
So I'm thinking factory faulty key. I sent the piano back to Thomann for a replacement but my whole plans are now pretty much ruined. The moment I spent my money and got the delivery date, of course, I started making plans...
Now it's going to take pretty much two weeks to get a new NP88.
Problem is if this second NP88 is going to break or something I'm going to lose it. If I can't have the NP88 there's no other electronic stage piano that appeals me right now.
Has anyone had problems with their keyboards or anything like that with missing cables in the box or any other issues with their instruments? This is the first time I'm buying from Thomann and it's not giving me a good first impression...
Cheers!

Re: Bought a NP88 with issues...
I'm really sorry to hear you had such a terrible experience. I can tell you, from everything I've read from fellow pro players around Nashville who've been playing Nords...they're KNOWN FOR THEIR RELIABILITY. So the issue with your keys is odd to say the least. Also, since your NP88 was shipped without a power cable, the DVD, USB cable, etc., was it even new to begin with, or was it a floor model? Might it have been a floor model but they told you it was new? If it was a floor model, the key could have been damaged and since the folks that sell keyboards rarely play them, they may have never known, but knowing they shipped a keyboard HIGHLY INCOMPLETE, they don't sound too competent.
I'd say contact Nord directly and explain to them what happened. I've contacted them before and they contacted me within 24 hours. Don't give up on Nord just yet. Good luck with your NP88 in the future and sorry again you've started out with such a bad experience.

Re: Bought a NP88 with issues...
Thanks for replying. I couldn't believe what happened, I pretty much froze for a couple of minutes when I saw the key broken.
I've only heard good things about Nords as well. I rang the store and told them I don't want a "repaired" or day-one refurbished instrument for 2,000 euros. I want a brand new one. They said they will ship me a brand new one.
Of course the store only sells brand new instruments so you can imagine I didn't think for one second this would happen.
But for the 10-15 minutes I actually got to play the instrument, I loved it. The keys felt great and the sounds were amazing. Way better than "top" Rolands and Korgs which I was playing for the job.
So I'm looking forward to owning a proper instrument that will not break in 15 minutes of playing...
Cheers! :)

Re: Bought a NP88 with issues...
Just received my second NP88 today, they packed the manuals and missing cables twice (haha) but everything seems to be alright so far...
I played for a good 3-4 hours on it today...
Cheers! :)

Congrats Cee on your new NP88. That's exciting man. I swear it grows on you...I don't know what it is. The NP88 has the coolest vibe of any keyboard I've owned. I just love mine. I'm glad you were taken care of and have a good board...now makes some music!
Cheers,
Zachary
