Which Nords can "supersaw"?

Post by JazzyJacck »

I think Lead 3 could generate 5 voices of unison per note. The A! has unison mode with "extra fat unison mode". What does that mean? How many voices is it layering? Lead 4 has true unison that allows you to stack 4 voices per note. Does this get rid of available polyphonic voices? I know the Nord Stage 3 has three unison modes without decreasing polyphony and has a "Super Wave (S-Wave)," but isn't that a sample? What exactly is a Super Wave anyway? How many voices are in an S-Wave? Is there a Nord synth that can "supersaw" somewhat like the JP-8000? I'm talking at least 7 voices of unison per note without losing polyphony and with adjustable detuning. I need Nord super saw in my life that I can play jazz chords of at least 6 notes with.

The NS3 has some nice super saw samples in it. One of the forum users here was nice enough to sample them and post them here on the forum - very high quality work. Those are here. Enjoy!

The unison modes of the NL3 and NLA1 were covered in this thread:

http://www.norduserforum.com/nord-lead- ... t7875.html

Supersaw is not really the same as unison though, as supersaw is emulating a bunch of sawtooth oscillators feeding a single filter, whereas unison on the Nords is a playing several detuned voices from the same key. In the end it can be quite similar though, as you in essence end up with a bunch of sawtooths.

I don't think any of the Nord Leads have an oscillator waveform that is explicitly called supersaw.

The only Nord for true Super-Saw is the Nord modular G2.
Actual synth: Nord Modular G2 - Nord Stage 3 73 - Virus Ti2 - Peak - Prophet 6
Before: Nord Lead 3 & 4, Stage 1&2, Wave, Virus C, DSI Tetra, P12, and few others...

Close to it on the Lead A1, it’s not called super saw, but use the Saw (panel) wave, and use the “SHP” OSC CONFIG and set the OSC CTRL pot to 5 (or taste). But it’s a single oscillator, and adding it to a second slot brings it deeper into that super saw-ish space and 3 opens it more. I like to use unison 2 to open it up.
With the LP M Filter is lushy, with LP TB Filter a harder attack.
Copy and paste into a second slot If it sounds too thin.
6note poly still there even in unison 3.

Almost exactly a year later and I've been GAS'n for a Nord Modular G2. How can the Nord Modular G2 pull off supersaws? Just by taking 7 saws oscillators and slightly detuning them all? Do you lose polyphony with this?

Can we consider that every Nord that can play a sample can play a super saw (sampled) ?

I would rather have a synth engine that can generate the supersaw so I can tune to my liking rather than using a sample. I think I'm going to get a Nord Modular.
