Classic synth delay techniques from Yaz (= Yazoo in EU)
Vince Clarke, the magician and maestro that left Depeche Mode, released the album "Upstairs at Eric's" in 1982. With vocals by the amazing Alison Moyet.
Clarke probably used a Pro-One (= Prophet 5 * 1/5) on all of the tracks. One is the funkiest dance track ever: "Situation"!
Here I try to make a contemporary version of the patch that was used for the catchy hook ... not nailing it 100%, but ...

Recipe
Osc: square, detune (= dual ocs setting), osc ctrl 0.12 (a tiny, tiny offset), LFO tri 4.0, LFO Amt 1.0 (LFO=just enough for a little warble)
Filter: freq 4.0, res 0, Mod Env 4.0, kb track 2/3, drive 2.0 (the env will modulate the cutoff, the overdrive takes me closer to the original = great effect with PWM)
Mod Env: A 1.0, D 2.5, R 2.0 (this quickly moves the filter setting)
Amp: "on/off" = 0-full-0 (A-D-R)
Vibrato: wheel (I did not touch it, but it is there, if you want)
Chorus: 3.0 (a must-have, makes the sound much wider)
Reverb: stage1 3.0 (I just love this setting)
Delay: (I set the mst clk to 118, the tempo of the song) mst clk, tempo 8d, fb 1, wet/dry 2.5, ping-pong (8d sets the delay to 1/8 note, just perfect for this sound and song, like the stereo ping-pong, very Clarke-ish)
Test: load the patch, play, turn off the effects, play again ... notice the great difference?
