Yamaha FC3 with Electro 3 HP? Or no half-damping?

Post by deathletter »

Simple question... Can I use a Yamaha FC3 sustain pedal with my Electro 3 HP, or only the FC4?

The FC3 has half-damping capability, a continuous sustain zone, etc.: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/accessor ... tain-pedal

FC4 has only an on/off switch type sustain.

I would really love to use the FC3, since it is much more like a real piano sustain pedal. But I want to make 100% sure before ordering. Please let me know. Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge, the Nord electro does not respond to half pedaling.
I believe it only works with the paddle which has a tip sleeve connection.
I wish I was wrong.

My FC4 works fine with HP, don't know about FC3 though, wish I knew about that!

@thom0720:
When you press the damper half the way, the sustain is not full, as when you press it all the way.
This simulates the mechanical damper pedal in a real piano, where the damper is partially lifted from the strings when you press it partially.
This seems to be achievable with the triple pedal, which has 2 velocity sensitive switches. I guess that if the 2nd gets activated the first one is ignored and you get a longer sustain. Never tried it, so there might be some more complex processing involved.

rb4u1 is right - the Electro 3HP only responds to an on/off signal for the sustain pedal.
I don't know what happens when you connect an FC3 to the E3HP but I suppose the pedal would then behave just as a generic on/off pedal.
To connect the Nord Piano's triple pedal to the E3HP doesn't make sense.
