Why is 'B3+Bass' in NE5 useful?

Post by Groovy »

What's the difference between using the 'B3+Bass' mode in NE5 and selecting drawbar setting 808000000 for lower manual using the normal B3 mode?

B3+Bass changes the Lower split to be the pedals on a B3, which have only two drawbars. The normal B3 split allows you to use all the drawbars on the lower split and the upper split.

That still doesn't explain anything. It still seems that you don't really need the "Bass" side of the split, it could just as easily be done by using the correct two drawbars of the normal B3 sound...

Perhaps there are other differences not specifically mentioned? I vaguely remember that some model or models had different shaped tonewheels for the bass pedals which gave a different tone, but I think that was pretty rare, and I'm fairly sure that doesn't apply to B3s. There's also the possibility of a monophonic bass mode, or a sound decay feature, but there's no mention of either of those features in the NE5 manual.

Otherwise, not a clue...

Hi,
when I read this on the Nord-Site: "A new B3 Tone Wheel Bass feature gives you the classic 16' and 8' bass drawbars in the left hand and can even be used with the Piano and Sample section for a thick and meaty bottom." I thought it would be possible to add Piano or Sample section additionally to the Organ-pedal-mode on the lower side. When in B3+Bass mode, you switch the drawbars with Preset1 and Preset2 buttons of the organ, Preset1 being lower and Preset2 upper.
So it would have been possible to use the Part Lower button to select an additional Piano or Synth - but - it does not work... Tried it here with my Electro 5, no success. MAybe it's an "intended feature" to come in future software versions? Don't know. This way, I also do not understand this B3+Bass mode...seems as if the bass tones are a bit louder maybe but this could be achieved the other way, too, I think...
Regards
Carsten.
