volume question on my NE3
I have had my Electro 3 for awhile now and i just noticed a problem i don't believe i had before. It seems that when i try to fade the volume down to 0 manualy from the keyboard controls either the gain or master it will go to a very low volume , but then abruptly cut off. I really don't think it always did this or i would have noticed before. It's not something i have to do to often but when i do, i need the volume to transition down to 0 smoothly. has any one had this happen. is it the way all electros are and i never really noticed. i just recently picked up a yamaha fc7 expression pedal ( two days ago) could this have changed something inside the board and yes i know the expression/volume pedal will not go down to 0 volume just like a real hammond. this is not what i'm talking about. also it does the same thing on all patches pianos, eps. clavs, etc.. hopefully someone has an answer for me.

Re: volume question on my NE3
Note that the gain level is stored to preset memories, so if the preset level and current knob level are different, there will be a sudden jump in volume when changing.
If you wish to fade out gradually, you should use the master volume knob.
Cheers,
James

yes this happens on the master volume control. i will say this, the volume does go to a very low level before it cuts off. it just doesnt go to absolute 0 in a variable even gradient. it just cuts off. if you have an E3 next time you fire it up try it and tell me does yours do that?, maby it is just a quirk of the normal function of this board i never noticed before.

Ah, I see what you mean.
Yes, I just tried this on my Electro and the sound does indeed cut-out at around the 7 or 8 o'clock position.
This isn't really a problem for me as I seldom use the volume knob to fade-out...and even if I did, by the time I got to that level it'd probably be impossible to hear with the noise of other instruments etc.
Cheers,
James

Re: volume question on my NE3
thank you for checking that for me. that puts me at ease as far as there being anything wrong with the keyboard. you are right in a live situation i do believe this would not be noticable with all the other ambient sound. i first noticed this while wearing headphones. i will consider this just a quirk of the E3 design and not worry about it. thanks again for helping me out.
