Upgrading from C2 to Electro 5 or 6?

Postby Steve01282 » 20 May 2019, 14:02

First post in this Forum section so Hi to all; apologies if these questions have been asked previously - I have looked intensively but cannot find.

I currently have a C2 MIDI'd to my Roland FA06 as a controller and for some songs I am able to control the FA on three separate MIDI channels from the C2; upper, lower and bass. This gives me loads of flexibility for song patches to control on my FA and layer with the C2 but I am looking at a lighter weight option instead of the C2; hence an Electro 73 (5 or 6). However, I am conscious that this MIDI channel functionality will be lessened or even limited to only one channel and hence my questions to you guys as follows;

Can anyone confirm that the NE6 only transmits on only one MIDI channel even when splits are in use as it appears that this is the case in the manual?
Please can anyone confirm whether on the NE5, I can have different MIDI channels for lower and upper to control different voices on my FA i.e piano on lower and strings on upper and that this split point and MIDI channel allocation is stored per patch on the Nord?

Cheers

Steve

Split point and split on/off are stored per patch, but the channel you want the upper keys to transmit on is set globally. There is no comparable option for the lower keys. Nord puts the kind of MIDI functionality you're looking for in the Stage, not the Electro. But I believe you can do what you want with a Hammond XK-1C or SK1.

How do you get the Roland FA-06 to respond to anything but MIDI channel 1 from an external MIDI controller?

On the older Roland XV, I was able to assign different MIDI channels to different Parts among the 16 available Parts a Performance. (vocabulary note: a "Performance" on an older Roland XV is the same thing as a "Studio Set" on the newer Roland FA). But on my Roland FA-07, I can only use MIDI channel 1 from an external MIDI controller, for assigning to the various splits in a Studio Set.

In Part view, for each sound of a Studio Set that you want to control from an external controller, set the Ch (channel) parameter to the desired channel number.

Ok, I think I recall that the problem is that the FA won't respect a keyboard range for an external keyboard, in the part definition of the Studio Set. This issue might not matter for Steve.
