Squeaky Springs on Keys

I just bought a Nord Electro 4D - and two of the keys are making squeaky spring sounds when I press them. It's really annoying as I can hear it at low volume / with headphones on.

How can I fix this ? Or should I send it back ?

I guess you have the sw keybed? My electro sw had the same 'problem' when brand new. After playing a lot in the first week it was gone. So if the key works and feels correctly like the rest of the keybed there might be no need to worry. If it remains there might be something wrong, check out other users reactions as well.

Hi Janeway - welcome to the Forum

This is a common occurrence, as Fabian says - there are small springs at the back of each key, and when new they sometimes squeak a little.

They'll typically stop it after some playing - but if you want to fix it yourself, it's just a matter of opening up the keyboard and wiggling them manually (and adding some lubricant if you wish). I've done this on my NS2 Compact, and it wasn't difficult.

Alternatively - as it's new, you may be able to get your distributor/retailer to do it for you!

I think I'll just leave it for now and play a lot. Hopefully they squeak will go away. I bought it from a music retailer who is about 2000 km away from me (online). As there are no good music shops in the small regional city where I live. So sending it back is a risky mission. More bumps and transport.

Is that really so?
While I would not open mine or suggest others to do so while under warranty, I am curious about where that statement comes from.
There is no mention of invalidating a warranty anywhere in the NS2 manual. Only about "non serviceable parts inside" and about "referring servicing to qualified personnel", but nothing about voiding a warranty.
Not even the word "warranty" is used in the manual, so...unless there is some kind of seal which breaks when you open it (some computer equipment have those) it would be difficult to tell if anybody looked inside or not (unless, or course, they left a half eaten sandwich inside! ).

General rule of thumb for warranties is that if you undertake any of your own work in the unit, it invalidates the warranty. This is true both in Europe, the US, and as far as I know Canada and Oz as well...I know some pieces of equipment do have seals so that the workshop can tell if the unit has been open.
