That's a major feature missing to me. Really hope for a future OS update, we'll be able to split and layer any 2 sample/synths sounds.
Re: Split with two synth sounds - Not Possible?
It would be nice, but I would not set my hopes to high for that. It MAY be a limitation of the system architecture (including the hardware). And add the stage har it (with two of each instrument) it is not so likely to be added to the electro. If you need that feature, a stage is the way to go.ponkine wrote:Bummer

Re: Split with two synth sounds - Not Possible?
Yeah, but bear in mind that the Stage 3 cost 50% more than the Electro 6!
And most musicians that play with the Electro 6 are organ players or all around (aka "one man band" or duos) who need in most cases, sounds like strings + a lead instrument (guitar, sax, flute, etc), synth pad + another instrument (lead synth, guitar, etc).
I do not think it could be a limitation of the hardware.
If they add the compatibility from the piano section to accept at least the Nord samples from the libraries in the same way as the synth section, Voilá!.

Re: Split with two synth sounds - Not Possible?
The current Electro does so much more than earlier versions. I would be happy with it and get the Stage if you really need those features. Or create samples with the splits built in.

Re: Split with two synth sounds - Not Possible?
I cannot simply "get the Stage"
Is a HUGE, huge difference in terms of money, that I simply do not have
It would be much easier for Nord to just simply allow the sounds from the library 3.0 to be uploaded into the Piano section. They can do it!. Also, that would be much more user friendly than leaving us alone trying to deal with the more complicated stuff.

Re: Split with two synth sounds - Not Possible?
As much as many of us would like it, I don't see Nord allowing their standard samples to load into the piano library. People have been requesting it for probably going on ten years. If you need to split/layer two sounds, neither of which are piano/organ, and you can't afford a Stage, then the best solution is probably to buy a non-Nord.
The closest Nord to what you want was probably the Electro 5. It had the ability to split the keyboard such that the upper part triggered an external sound over MIDI (either by itself, or layered with a resident Nord sound). So then, to get, for example, the OP's requested "strings on bottom, sax on top," you could grab a sax sound from an iPhone/iPad you might already own. An imperfect solution for a variety of reasons, but still a very handy capability that disappeared from the 6, unfortunately.

You can make split samples with as many sounds as you wish, using the sample editor.
It takes some time, because you will have to make wavs of the sounds first. But once you have the wav files, you can assign the sounds to key ranges.
It works very well. I have done this for a lot of programs on my Electro 5.

Yes, I know!
But it would be much easier if Nord made the library 3.0 available BOTH in .nsmp and .npno
Then we could upload any sounds from the sample library into the piano section within seconds, saving a lot of time (and probably some headaches in the meantime!)

Re: Split with two synth sounds - Not Possible?
When doing this, I'd consider placing one of your two sounds hard left and the other hard right. That way, if you use an external mixer or multi-channel amp (which many of us do anyway), you still have a way to adjust the volume (and possibly EQ, effects) of one of the two sounds without affecting the other, if needed. One thing you still lose, though, is the ability to use sustain pedal on one sound without using it on the other.MvanD wrote:You can make split samples with as many sounds as you wish, using the sample editor.

Re: Split with two synth sounds - Not Possible?
I believe the reason for not allowing loading of samples to the piano memory is a matter of engineering. The piano files have different encoding than the sample files so the piano section can not read nsmp file formats and the synth section can not read the npno files. If you prefer working with samples you can also go for a used Nord Wave, you will have a powerful synth engine with samples as oscillators if you wish, but you will miss the organ and piano sections. For that kind of sounds you will have to use samples.
