OTOH, if (for example) Nord comes out with a new Rhodes sound, and you want to use it in place of the Rhodes sound you used in a whole bunch of songs, the E5 approach means you can change one program and those songs will all change; on the E6, you'll have to change it separately for each song.

Having said that I'd prefer that the Song feature had been maintained, on NE6 to handle that situation you would rather make the changes via Nord Sound Manager (which you have to use anyway to load the new sample), either on all Programs which used the old one with the "Substitute" function (mandatory if you are replacing the old one) or with the "Relink" at single or group of programs level (you can use the Find... and Organize/Sort features of the Program tab to makes this task faster)

OTOH on NE5 in case you are adding the new sample but not replacing and you want to make the change only on some of the songs, you have to duplicate the original Program, select the new sample on it and select that Program only on those songs. So imho there are pros and cons in both cases, it depends on the situation and objective.

My "replace old Rhodes sound with a newly released Rhodes sound" was a bad example because there'a an alternate approach to that, as you suggested. So let's say you want the same Rhodes sample as always, but you've found a new way to tweak it that you prefer, and so you want to replace your old instance with your new instance. Or a newly tweaked organ registration, etc.

But I agree, pros and cons to each approach.

The biggest knock on the NE6 approach is that you can much more quickly burn through your 400 program locations. 30 songs that use the same piano sound will take up 30 programs, whereas with the NE5 approach those 30 identical piano instances take only 1 program slot.

The biggest advantage of the NE6 approach is that it is probably conceptually simpler for many people.

I think it's also worth noting that you can kind of make the NE5 work like the NE6 if that's what works better for your purpose, but you can't really make the NE6 work like the NE5.

In full agreement with you anotherscott, in that case on NE6 you need to resave the modified Program as many times as the number of "instances" of it you have in different banks/locations and if that Program is a frequently used one it can be annoying (although for that reason I tend to keep frequently used programs in the Live buffers i.e. I use them as "favorite" or "quick access" locations).
