I had a similar experience with going from a NE5 to a NE6 - playing mostly acoustic pianos. With the 5, everything sounds rich & round, with the 6, much less so. Since I can compensate some of this by applying different EQ, however, I tend to put it down to a simple electronic change in the output electronics, or rather, the impedance matching between the Electro and the next device in the audio chain.
Since I was not desperately in need of the added flexibility of the NE6 (which is substantial, of course) I got rid of the 6 again and am back to using the 5.

Re: Same piano lib sounds completely different on E4, vs E6?
I like e3 and 4 much better than the 5. The organs sound sterile and lifeless and the different pianos sound similar/charactorless on the 5. 3 and 4 feel more like a real instrument. I said so a few years ago on this forum and finally someone feels what I felt.

I had a 3 before the 5 (and 6). While the organs were surely different, with the acoustic & electric pianos I did not find the 5 lacking at all. And they certainly didn't sound "all the same"
However, the Electros never provide a sound on their own - it's all about the audio chain in which the instrument sits. Whether you are amplifying or just using headphones.
