Routing in NE 6D

Post by yurabirukov »

Is it possible somehow (or may be planned for future OS updates) to route (with split mode activated) the lower part to the left channel, and upper part to the right one? Now there are only two options: 1) Stereo and 2) Organs to the right channel and the rest (including pianos) to the left. With my NE 5D I used to play a bass piano or bass guitar (both sampled) in the lower part connected to the bass amp, and all the rest (pianos, organs and even synths) in the upper part and that's exactly how it worked so nice for all that Doors-tribute-bands and for missing bass guitar player as well.

I think this is an extension of the fact that the NE5D was based around an UPPER/LOWER concept, where you picked the sounds you wanted for those locations, while the NE6D is based around a 3-INSTRUMENT concept, where you pick the locations you want for those sounds.

There's no single perfect solution as far as output routin goes. On the 5, you could split the outs to be UPPER and LOWER as you want, which is ideal for LH bass, but if you did an organ split (lower manual out of LOWER and upper manual out of UPPER), there was no way to direct both halves of the organ to the same external amp/rotary sim, while maintaining the ability to do other splits where the organ would be processed that way and your other sound would not. The E6 addresses that issue, but you lose LH bass facility. Though really, neither board is great for LH bass, because if you use your sample section for a bass sound, your RH can't play anything but a piano or an organ. Though at least on the 5, you could use the UPPER MIDI split to play some other RH sound from an attached iPad or whatever, that's another function that's gone from the E6. The Nord giveth, and the Nord taketh away...

If NE6 "is based around a 3-INSTRUMENT concept" it could be done by simply giving us the 3rd option: "Synth:L Main:R" (where we would have synth section routed to the left channel and pianos and organs to the right). Don't think it is so difficult in sense of hardware programming.

Maybe but not officially. You better use the official support contact at nordkeyboards.com if you want to make sure that your request is heard by Clavia
