RE: Two Samples Within One Preset
Hi folks,
Last year I created some presets using the Sample Editor wherein I had two or three different samples assigned to different keys. For instance, I might have a String sound on C2, a Bell sound on C3, and a Pad sound on C4 (all within a single user-preset). More importantly, the String sound only sounded on C2, the Bell sound only sounded on C3, and the Pad sound only sounded on C4 - meaning ALL other 58 notes were 'silent', which was exactly what I wanted.
However, I'll be damned if I can recreate this again? I've been trying all weekend!
It cannot possibly have been a fluke because I successfully reproduced this a handful of times.
Best,
Paul David Seaman (UK)

RE: Two Samples Within One Preset
. . . as per screenshot I only seem to be able to drag the 'zone' boundaries to the mid-point C4. I have a (unpitched) sample on C2, and one more (unpitched) sample on C7. When transferred to the Nord synth, the bottom sample plays from C2 thru C4 (I would like it to only sound on C2), and the upper sample sounds from C#4 thru C7 (I would like it to only sound on C7). This would render 59 keys 'silent', which is what I would like please.

Re: RE: Two Samples Within One Preset
Nord Sample Editor will allow you to save silent sections if saving the sample in NSMP3 format. If saving in NSMP format you need to assign a very small silent wave to the notes. Using the wave for your bell for example and assuming there's silence right before the bell wave, you could assign a fraction of a second of silence to a note and have it interpolate across the rest that you want silent.

Thanks WannitBBBad,
I definitely did not apply any "silent waves" when I created the dozen or so zone/boundary samples earlier in the year. So goodness knows how I managed to create them?! I just checked one of them and there is one sample on C2, another on C3, and another on C7 - leaving 58 'silent' keys.
I have taken a couple of screenshots to show you how I am set.
Much appreciated,
Paul

Re: RE: Two Samples Within One Preset
I'd assume, you created your sample last time with an older version of NSE: I think that NSE2 and 3 handled silent parts differently from v.4.

Re: RE: Two Samples Within One Preset
I found this in the online manual:
ADJUSTING ZONE RANGE AND ADJUSTING ROOT KEYS
To adjust the keyboard range for a zone, drag its left or right boundary handle. Zones can be detached by right-clicking on a handle and selecting “Detach”. Keys between the detached zones will become silent, not playing any sample at all.

Hi FZiegler,
I think you have hit the nail on the head. I'm 99% sure I DID update my original NSE about 6 months ago. And so yes, it is possible that I performed the multi sample zones (with silence) using an earlier s/w.
So should I just d/l an earlier version of the NSE (say NSE3) and use that instead? Also, is it OK to have two DIFFERENT versions of the NSE on one PC?
Much appreciated as always.
