Random Percussion Sounds from Nowhere

Post by lynnsing »

Hello Everyone!
I have a Nord Electro 6HP. At a gig this weekend it started freaking out. Random percussion sounds started playing on certain keys—no matter what patch I was playing and even after turning off/on several times. Then it was every key and rendered the keyboard useless for the remainder of the gig. Anyone experience this issue before?
Checked it at home and the problem will not replicate.

Hi and welcome to NUF, did you have anything connected to the NE6 during the gig, like a computer/tablet?

PS: what type of "percussion sounds" do you mean, liek a drumkit? Do you have any drumkit sample loaded in NE6 sample synth and maybe you activated it by mistake?

Nothing connected midi or otherwise. The sounds were various pitched cymbals and noisemakers—like blocks, tin whistles, and just plain old white noise.

What you describe, if the sounds where clear and not distorted, looks like a drumkit (or an FX collection) sampleset, NE6 has no such sounds built in, so could it be that you have such a sample loaded in Sample Synth and activated it by mistake?

How would I have activated that? Is there a button that I would’ve hit inadvertently? Apologies in advance for my lack of knowledge of this board. This is my first Nord. (Converted from Kurzweil.) :)

Did you buy your Electro 6 HP new or used? If the latter, someone could have loaded a drum kit into the board's sample memory. Try to go through all your samples in the sample memory and see if you can find the drumkit.

This or (alternative) make a full backup of current programs/samp,es with Nord Sound Manager then restore the Factory Backup (you can download it from Nord website), to be sure you have a "clean" situation (check also that you have the latest NE6 OS, if not then you should better update it before the factory restore)

As said @maxpiano, if you still hear those sounds after the full reset, it only means that the motherboard is somewhere broken or something is wrong inside —especially if the gear is second-hand.

Hey OP, did it sound anything like this? My Grand has been acting up lately. I've contacted support. Purchased from Sweetwater in January so I hope there's some warranty somewhere I'm still covered by.
