question about live mode

I have created about 20 programs that I use with varying degrees of regularity. I want to use live mode in the following way. If I have gig, I pick the 8 programs I will use the most for that gig. And then I can make subtle changes to EQ, volume, reverb, etc, depending on the room and the other musicians. I like that they would stay like that for the gig without affecting the original program that I created.

The manual says that existing programs can be programmed into LIVE mode, but I cannot figure out how to do it. I cleared all 8 live channels, but it won't let me turn on the program module in live mode so how do I set an existing program into a live mode channel?

I figured it out. Disregard.

If anyone has the same question. You go to the program you want to set as live. You hit store. You hit live, you pick the live channel and then hit store again.

yup, that's it. I use this all this time to tweak the top 8 programs I use without affecting the original. Glad you found this. On another note, I would like to find a way to name the programs in the live mode. When I copy them from the memory, the name does not travel with it. Anybody find a way to name the live programs?

You cannot name Live programs (Actually "Live buffers" is their proper name), probably because they are there just as "buffers" and their content being changed constantly/instantly, but you can make your own convention e.g. 1 = Acoustic Piano, 2 = Rhodes, etc... if you need named Programs just use a program memory (and save changes when you want/need)

Yeah but the OP's use case is kind of interesting - actually the first time I've seen a legitimate explanation of where live mode could be useful. I don't think I'm fussy or clever enough to customise the EQ, reverb and gain of 8 programs during sound check to suit a specific room. But if you were to do it, you're good to jump back and forth between them for the whole gig. Stored programs won't give you that flexibility unless you permanently commit the customisations.

I don't think I'm fussy or clever enough to customise the EQ, reverb and gain of 8 programs during sound check to suit a specific room. But if you were to do it, you're good to jump back and forth between them for the whole gig. Stored programs won't give you that flexibility unless you permanently commit the customisations.

Yes I can see that use case too, but you could still do it using an empty program Bank as a temporary location, anyway at the moment there is no way to name a Live buffer on any Nord model where they exist

I'd be inclined to just save to empty locations as well (and re-use those same spots for the next gig). But I did see a facebook post were I similarly thought, this is the first time I've seen a good rationale for using the Live locations for programs that don't change. He uses Live for things he always wants quick access to. For example, no matter WHAT program you're on, "LIVE 1" would always bring up your main piano, "LIVE 2" always has that favorite organ, etc. So you've got 5 main sounds you can always access with two buttons, no matter where else you are.

For info, live mode programs are saved in a backup file. They have extension ns3l (or ns2l) and are can be deciphered just like programs in the Nord Stage Viewer program !

Yes I can see that use case too, but you could still do it using an empty program Bank as a temporary location

Yes and that's the way I have always been using the Live buffers too, to have my most common sounds setups at hand, but without the need of naming them (not being possible) I just gave my self a standard like the one you suggested e.g. Live1 = Grand piano (+stings/pad), 2= Rhodes (+pad), 3= Wurlie (+pad), 4=Hammond (split), 5 = Hammond (dual manual)

I have also been using LIVE mode for quickly switching between programs that are not close to eachother in the menu. Say I want to start a song on Grand Piano and need to quickly switch to Clav, but they are separated by 13 different programs. I go the clav program, then hit the live button, and then find the Grand Piano channel I set in live. Now I can just switch back and forth by clicking the live button which is easy access.
