Setting up a second keyboard for hammond emulation
Setting up a second keyboard for hammond emulation
Hey
I have some problem setting up a second keyboard to emulate a hammond . I want the second keyboard playing only the lower part of the electro5D . but it still plays both upper and lower part together
I set up the electro 5D this way :
- setting the KB split ON .
- in the midi settings :
Channel lower receive **1** (the number of the midi channel send from my other keyboard)
Channel upper receiv **Off**
. Any idea of what s wrong in my setup ?
Thanks for your help

Re: Problem setting up a second keyboard for hammond emulati
The external keyboard can only play the "Upper" part on the NE5D, this has been discussed a few times in this forum so if you search you'll find more about it.

Re: Problem setting up a second keyboard for hammond emulati
So the whole process:
Pluging the midi cable midi OUT from the external keyboard to midi IN in the NE5. And sending MIDI on channel 1 from the external keyboard
- setting the KB split ON . When using organ on both lower and upper part it automatically set preset 1 as lower part and preset 2 as part upper
- Shift + MIDI (at bottom under the button live 1) : there it open a menu , you navigate inside with the dial (on left side of the screen) and you change the value with Shift+ dial
so to have the upper part been trigger by the second keyboard i put in the midi settings :
Channel global : Off
Channel upper receiv : 1 (the number of the midi channel send from my other keyboard ; 3/8 in menu)
Channel lower receive : Off (4/8)
So now just setting up organ on the lower and upper part on the NE5 .
clicking preset 1 and setting the drawbars percussion rotary .... for the lower part
clicking preset 2 and setting the upper part
NB important to notice even it is a been unintuitive in the menu. the external keyboard can only play the upper part of the NE5 (or both part )
now two keyboards playing the nord sound lower and upper ... its done

Re: Setting up a second keyboard for hammond emulation
i have another issue the volume pedal cant control the lower part only the upper part of the electro5d .. no luck thats now the lower keyboard .. grrr
Because the lower keyboard is my main keyboard and i'd like to keep the volume pedal on it .
anyone got the solution ?

Re: Setting up a second keyboard for hammond emulation
Is the pedal connected to the second keyboard and what CC is it sending? If it is sending Volume = CC7 then it is not OK and that's probably why you see that behavior; if you want to control the NE5 Organ volume (swell) you should rather connect the expression pedal to the NE5 or (if you need it connected to the second keyboard) it should send the MIDI CC11 (Expression)

Re: Setting up a second keyboard for hammond emulation
Hi Max
the midi send is CC11 for the pedal
you think with split mode it should control both upper and lower part witht this setup ?
I use mainly the lower keyboard , thats why id rather have my expression pedal on this one . You seems really at the top for Nord keyboard coool Another idea ?

Re: Setting up a second keyboard for hammond emulation
I don't own a NE5D (I have a NS2) so I cannot test myself, but another idea could be to enable the Global Channel on NE5D (setting it for example to 16) and send only that pedal's MIDI CC11 to that channel (if your master keyboard can do that, which one is it btw?) while the rest transmits on the MIDI Upper (CH1)
Otherwise, if your master cannot do that, just get a second (cheap) Expression pedal and use it connected to the NE5D directly (unless you have and want to use a computer to do some MIDI transformation, overcoming the limitations of the master keyboard)
